To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a Senior European Employment Counsel to join our growing Legal team. Together with other members of the Legal team, the person in this role will help us navigate important employment matters in Germany, Poland, and Ukraine, advise on cutting-edge employment issues, and collaborate closely with our customers and partners.

As Grammarly’s first Senior European Employment Counsel, you will help collaborate with our business teams on some of Grammarly’s most complex and impactful legal questions. This role reports to the Head of Litigation and Employment.

In this role, you will:

  • Advise internal business clients regarding employment law issues in Germany, Poland, and Ukraine.
  • Manage cross-functional legal projects, and serve as the driving force for our European employment legal function.
  • Identify relevant changes to employment laws in the European countries where Grammarly operates and advise the business concerning compliance.
  • Review and draft employment documentation, including employment agreements, relocation agreements, and employment and benefits policies.
  • Advise internal business clients regarding performance management, internal investigations, and disability accommodations.

Qualifications

  • A German law degree and post-qualification experience in a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
  • 4+ years of experience delivering employment advice to German clients. Experience delivering advice to clients in Poland or Ukraine is a plus.
  • Professional experience in a comparable position is a strong plus.
  • Fluency in German and English.
  • Brings a problem-solving and detail-oriented approach to their work, a track record of excellent organizational skills, and unfailing follow-up to effectively manage multiple activities of varying difficulty, priority, and complexity.
  • Demonstrates the ability to independently move projects forward by gaining support from others while working in a cross-functional role.
  • Brings an entrepreneurial drive and comfort working in ambiguous, quickly changing environments.
  • Has a strong sense of accountability and integrity, taking ownership of projects and responsibilities and resolving issues proactively.
  • Is a great communicator and has a service mindset that empowers others to hit their goals.
  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is inspired by our MOVE principles, which are the blueprint for how things get done at Grammarly: move fast and learn faster, obsess about creating customer value, value impact over activity, and embrace healthy disagreement rooted in trust.

Our remote-first hybrid model enables a highly collaborative culture supported by our EAGER (ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable) values.
