That’s where you come in!

Role Overview

Our cloud environment underpins how services are built, deployed, and operated across the organization. As adoption scales, cost visibility, allocation, and optimization must be engineered into the platform, not managed reactively.

As a Cloud FinOps Platform Engineer, you will build the cost management capabilities of the cloud platform itself—ensuring teams can understand, attribute, and optimize their cloud usage through standardized, automated, and self-service mechanisms.

This role functions within the platform scope, embedding FinOps practices into cloud foundations, guardrails, and automation workflows, rather than managing costs through manual reporting or one-off analysis.

Success in this role means cost management becomes predictable, visible, and scalable, without increasing operational overhead.

What You’ll Do

Build Cost-Aware Platform Foundations

  • Implement cost allocation standards (tagging, labeling, account structure) across cloud environments
  • Embed cost transparency into platform provisioning workflows and templates
  • Ensure cloud resources are built with consistent, enforceable cost attribution

Expand Cost Visibility & Tooling

  • Integrate and operate cloud expense management platforms and automation such as Flexera, CloudZero, or equivalent aggregation tools, and cost optimization tools like ProsperOps.
  • Enable cross-cloud cost visibility, unit cost analysis, and business-level attribution including a show-back model.
  • Build and maintain cost dashboards, alerts, budgets, and reporting pipelines for engineering and stakeholders.
  • Improve visibility into shared services, platform costs, and unallocated spend

Embed FinOps throughout Platform Automation

  • Integrate cost controls into Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and CI/CD workflows
  • Automate detection of cost anomalies, unused resources, and optimization opportunities
  • Ensure cost guardrails are enforced through policy and automation, not manual review

Enable Cost-Aware Engineering

  • Partner with engineering teams to improve cost transparency and accountability
  • Provide guidance on cost-efficient usage patterns aligned with platform standards
  • Contribute documentation, examples, and reference patterns for cost-aware design

Improve Cost Efficiency Over Time

  • Identify systemic cost inefficiencies and drive platform-level improvements
  • Support automation of rightsizing, reservation strategies, and usage optimization patterns
  • Work with Finance and platform leadership to align forecasting, budgeting, and usage trends

Vendor Optimization & Commitment Management

  • Include suggestions from suppliers within platform automation and governance workflows
  • Ensure commitment strategies (Savings Plans and Reserved Instances) are aligned with usage patterns and platform standards
  • Translate vendor insights into repeatable, scalable optimization patterns

What You’ll Bring

Experience & Skills

  • Demonstrated ability in cloud engineering, DevOps, FinOps, or platform engineering
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
  • Clear understanding of cloud cost drivers, billing models, and usage patterns
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code and automation tools (Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation, etc.)
  • Experience with cloud commitment models (Savings Plans, Reserved Instances, or equivalents)
  • Familiarity working with cost optimization vendors or managed FinOps platforms

FinOps & Tooling

  • Background in using cloud cost tools such as Flexera, CloudZero, CloudHealth, or native cloud cost platforms
  • Familiarity with cost allocation strategies (tagging, chargeback/showback models)
  • Understanding of FinOps lifecycle principles (Inform, Optimize, Operate)

Engineering & Collaboration

  • Strong systems thinking and ability to work at the platform level
  • Ability to translate technical usage into financial insight
  • Experience working across engineering, finance, and platform teams
  • Clear communication and documentation skills

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
