About the Role:
Hims & Hers is on a mission to empower people to live healthier lives. Our Growth Engineering team plays a critical role in achieving this by building cutting-edge web experiences that drive patient acquisition, engagement, and satisfaction.
As a Senior Director of Engineering for the Category team, you will lead a talented group of managers and engineers responsible for developing and maintaining our consultation flow experiences across our product categories including sexual health, weight management, mental health, dermatology, and more. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, design, and data science, to deliver high-quality solutions that enhance user experience and enable business growth.
This is a pivotal leadership role, where you'll be a hands-on leader, fostering a collaborative environment while driving high-impact initiatives. Your work will directly impact our bottom line and support the care of millions of patients.
You Will:
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of directors, managers and senior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement
- Provide strategic leadership to build and develop talent to meet long term objectives
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, providing feedback and professional development opportunities
- Develop and execute on strategy for our Category Engineering teams, working with executives to achieve key business objectives; contributes to the development of overall department strategy
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners across product, design, analytics, and marketing, and telemedicine teams, providing cohesive direction, to define and execute growth strategies and initiatives
- Partner with engineering leaders across the organization to create, evaluate, and execute on opportunities to continuously evolve and develop the way we connect with our customers
- Oversee and direct a portfolio of programs and projects, managing resources and budgets effectively, ensuring on-time delivery and quality
- Supervise ongoing architecture evolution and ensure our systems are scaling, stable, and enabling the business and our customers
- Acts as a "trusted advisor" across Hims & Hers
- Negotiate with and influence the decision-making of senior internal and external executives and decision-makers
- Build a high-performing team by coaching and guiding the team on industry best practices and common ways of working
- Ensure rigorous quality assurance practices within an agile development environment
- Champion continuous improvement by identifying and implementing solutions that enhance platform scalability and performance
- Able to anticipate business and industry issues and recommend new and innovative approaches
You Have:
- 15+ years of relevant work experience in software engineering, managing and leading teams to deliver in fast-paced hyper-growth environments at scale
- Strong understanding of how to design an effective engineering organization
- Expertise in modern web technologies and frameworks (JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Next, GraphQL, Node)
- Experience managing external partnerships and vendors
- Proven experience in building and managing multiple high-performing teams, setting a high-bar for your engineering teams, and delivering at scale
- Strong technical background with expertise in full-stack development and architecture
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions
- Experience designing, building, and scaling high-traffic applications
- Excellent understanding of agile frameworks and project management practices
- Clear and concise communication skills, adept at bridging the gap between technical and non-technical audiences
- Passion for building user-centric products and delivering high-quality solutions
- A self-starter with a strong business acumen and a strategic mindset
- A passionate collaborator with a "can-do" attitude and a focus on execution

Outlined below is a reasonable estimate of H&H’s compensation range for this role for US-based candidates. If you're based outside of the US, your recruiter will be able to provide you with an estimated salary range for your location.
The actual amount will take into account a range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and location. H&H also offers a comprehensive Total Rewards package that may include an equity grant.

$250,000 - $275,000 USD
