Geotab is seeking a Summer Legal Student who will work with Geotab’s legal team in commercial and corporate legal matters, legal drafting and research, contract management, and file administration. What you'll do:
As a Summer Legal Student your key area of responsibility will be to support the legal team and other subject matter experts (SME’s) at Geotab with legal advice, research, and drafting. You will also provide administrative support using the legal department’s software tools for contract management, research, and analysis. In addition, you will also need to provide regular status reports to key partners to ensure that special projects, if provided, are delivered on time and meet expectations. As a part of your role, you will need to work closely with various Geotab departments, including, Legal, Compliance, Operations, Business Development, HR, and other departments.
To be successful in this role you should be a team player with the ability to work independently. Other skills that will benefit you within this role are adaptability, problem solving, time management, collaboration and communication. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong analytical, research, organization, and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple timelines and contrasting priorities to ensure timely results.
The opportunity:
- 4-month work-term beginning May 2026.
- Full-time, paid internship: Monday - Friday, 37.5hrs/week.

How you'll make an impact:
- Become familiar with Geotab, its products, processes, and standard procedures, with a special emphasis on those related to the legal department.
- Observe and support negotiations, phone calls, meetings, and other interactions between Geotab legal team members and their internal customers and other organizations.
- Assist with drafting, reviewing, and executing legal agreements with a major focus on software, data privacy, and intellectual property. This includes end user agreements, distribution agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and minor vendor contracts.
- Assist legal counsel in dealing with litigation matters, subpoenas, and requests for information relating to litigation matters.
- Review, organize, and classify the legal team's contract database, identifying non-standard terms and conditions.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Currently enrolled in a Canadian or U.S. accredited law school.
- Ability to conduct legal research using Westlaw and other legal research tools.
- Familiarity with Microsoft, Google, and data processing software tools (MS Word, Google Docs, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Provide input and advice during legal meetings, negotiations, and projects with other Geotab SMEs.
- Use the legal team’s software tools to enhance contract management processes, file administration, and overall organization of legal documents.
