Overview – Role
The Chemical Process Safety Engineer will report to the Director, Middle East and will be responsible for identifying process hazards, evaluating the risk of those hazards, and the development of effective solutions to mitigate risk. While the Chemical Process Safety Engineer must be familiar with the fourteen elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and the EPA’s Risk Management Plan (RMP) rule, preference will be given to Chemical Process safety management. This role requires familiarity with NFPA 30; IL state pressure vessel requirements; IL state atmospheric storage tank requirements; and experience interfacing with insurance carriers (Factory Mutual).
Based in Doha/Khobar , this role will be responsible for supporting projects across Middle East.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). HAZID, NAZOP, SIL Workshops on existing and new processes
- Provide oversight for the site Management of Change (MOC) Process
- Manage the site PHA schedule and recommendation implementation plan
- Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations for incidents and near misses
- Provide oversight and conduct audits for Pre Startup Safety Reviews(PSSR)
- Provide mentoring and training for site personnel
- Participate on teams responsible to implement new products and processes
- Interact with the AHG and Factory Mutual
Requirements and Qualifications
- BE/BTech/BS/ME/MTech/MS in related engineering field (chemical, electrical, mechanical, fire protection, safety) along with a minimum of 8 years of industry experience related to process safety management, process or engineering design environment, manufacturing operations, and/or consulting environment
- Ability to develop the consulting business including developing proposals and making presentations
- Self-motivated and independent with strong leadership & organizational skills along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and facilitation skills and a consultative approach in supporting customer projects
- Experienced in Safety Instrumented Systems services such as:
- Safety integrity level (SIL) assessment, safety integrity level (SIL) assessment based on recognized knowledge of IEC61511 and related standards
- Experience with Quantitative Risk Assessment Studies such as:
- Consequence Modelling
- QRA, and Occupied Building Risk Assessment
- Toxic Gas Risk Assessment
- Experience in developing, implementing, or managing PSM programs
- Experience in developing, writing, and implementing PSM plans, procedures, design philosophies, design bases, engineering specifications, standard operating procedures
- Experience developing and evaluating/auditing PSM management systems and advising management at all levels of the organization to effect positive change to operational excellence.
- Experience and expertise in PSM Technical Services such as:
- Process hazard analyses (PHA), and risk assessments, or related studies, such as Design Review, HAZID, What-If, HAZOP, FMEA, ENVID, SIMOPS, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Bowtie Analysis, ALARP Demonstration
- Having excellent report writing, communication, interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of a team, rise to professional challenges, and endeavour to be an integral part of the long-term growth of Jensen Hughes in the Middle East.
- Able to travel within the Middle East as required, to meet projects requirements.
- Demonstrate clear commitment to developing less experienced engineers in the team through effective training.
