The Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games will be hosted in Los Angeles, California in 2028, returning to the United States for the first time in over 30 years. 2028 will be the first time LA hosts the Paralympic Games, creating an opportunity to expand awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disabilities.

The LA28 organizing committee is an independent, non-profit organization that is privately funded and governed by a board of directors.

Senior Manager, Climate
The LA28 Sustainability team is responsible for working across the organization to deliver a more environmentally sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028. Reporting to the VP of Sustainability, the Senior Manager, Climate will be responsible for the refinement, planning, and execution of the climate strategy for the LA28 Games. This role spans creating and implementing scalable systems and programs for carbon measurement, abatement, and mitigation across the organization. It also involves engaging with a wide range of external stakeholders, from government to NGOs to commercial partners, to co-create and communicate LA28’s climate strategy. The role requires deep technical knowledge of carbon accounting, abatement, and mitigation standards and best practices, as well as excellent stakeholder management skills and an ability to deliver results in a complex operational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a scalable carbon measurement plan in line with the International Olympic Committee’s carbon footprint methodology, encompassing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions
- Procure and implement a carbon measurement software platform
- Refine and implement a comprehensive carbon abatement plan
- Continuously refine carbon footprint forecast based on operational updates and abatement strategies
- Track and report progress against all LA28 climate targets
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (e.g., Energy, Transportation) to operationalize measurement and abatement plans
- Collaborate with external stakeholders (e.g., government, NGOs, commercial partners) to leverage the Games as a catalyst to accelerate climate solutions in the region
- Manage external communications regarding LA28’s climate strategy
- Monitor relevant regulatory developments and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements regarding climate
Background & Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in developing and executing climate strategies
- Experience managing carbon measurement and reporting at complex organizations
- Strong familiarity with GHG Protocol and current best practices for carbon measurement, specifically Scope 3
- Strong familiarity with landscape of carbon reporting platforms and experience implementing platforms at complex organizations
- Experience implementing successful carbon reduction projects within complex organizations
- Experience managing third-party verification of organizational carbon footprints
- Strong familiarity with climate regulatory landscape, particularly in California
- Experience communicating climate strategies while navigating greenwashing regulations
- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Will be required to be in the office up to 4-5 days per week in an open office setting
- Sitting/Standing: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
- Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in typing and using office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (Environmental Studies or related) required.
- Master's Degree preferred.

The annual base salary range for this position is $115,000.00 - $130,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
