Senior Manager of Venue Medical Operations:

The Senior Manager of Medical Operations, Venue Services is a key leader within the Games Logistics & Services (GLS) team, responsible for the strategic planning and operational delivery of medical services across all competition and non-competition venues. This role ensures an integrated, athlete- and spectator-centered medical program, aligned with the unique requirements of each sport and supported by strong partnerships with local healthcare systems and emergency services. 
 
Reporting to the Head of Medical Operations, this individual provides leadership and oversight for venue medical operations, collaborating across the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (OCOG), with medical delivery partners, international sport federations, and community stakeholders to safeguard the health and well-being of athletes, workforce, and spectators. 

Key Responsibilities:

Venue Medical Operations Leadership 

  • Serve as the lead for all venue-based medical services, overseeing planning, execution, and operational decision-making. 
  • Lead Venue Medical Teams (VMTs), integrating expertise from international federations and fostering collaboration with National Olympic Committee/National Paralympic Committee (NOC/NPC) medical delegations. 

Strategic & Operational Planning 

  • Drive strategic planning for venue-specific medical services across competition and non-competition venues. 
  • Define operational requirements—including staffing, equipment, and scope of services—for athletes, workforce, and spectators. 
  • Ensure VMTs are trained in emergency response, sports medicine, and International Federation (IF-specific medical codes. 
  • Develop and oversee venue public health and hygiene programs. 

Medical Service Delivery 

  • Oversee daily delivery of venue medical services, including first aid, field-of-play response, athlete care, and spectator support. 
  • Define service levels in consultation with the International Organizing Committee (IOC) Medical and Scientific Commission Games Group, IFs, and subject-matter experts. 
  • Manage medical supply chain, pharmacy operations, medical transport, and venue medical stations. 
  • Direct Venue Medical Managers (VMMs) and field-of-play medical teams. 

Emergency Preparedness 

  • Establish and manage emergency medical planning in collaboration with local EMS, hospitals, and public safety authorities. 
  • Develop venue-specific contingency protocols and coordinate scenario-based training and test events. 
  • Implement environmental health and safety protocols related to medical operations. 

Community & Stakeholder Engagement 

  • Build and maintain partnerships with local hospitals, EMS providers, and healthcare systems. 
  • Coordinate with public authorities on EMS planning, disaster preparedness, and public health surveillance. 
  • Support community medical integration for spectator services. 

Compliance & Documentation 

  • Ensure adherence to medical regulations, protocols, and Games policies. 
  • Oversee development and distribution of medical manuals, operational guides, and training materials. 

Cross-Functional & Organizational Integration 

  • Collaborate with LA28 departments, medical delivery partners, and government agencies to align venue medical planning. 
  • Partner with Technology teams to design and implement the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. 
  • Work with Finance and Commercial teams to identify cost efficiencies and business integration opportunities. 

Budget & Workforce Management 

  • Support the development and management of the Medical Functional Area budget for venue operations. 
  • Contribute to workforce planning, ensuring adequate and appropriately skilled staffing across all venues. 

Background & Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in medical planning and operations, preferably within venue services and/or elite sports environment. 
  • Direct experience with medical delivery for large-scale elite sporting events; Olympic/Paralympic experience strongly preferred. 
  • Strong understanding of local healthcare systems and community integration. 
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Self-directed and proactive, with the ability to identify priorities, resolve issues independently, and escalate effectively when necessary. 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in a sports medicine related field is highly preferred. 
  • Relevant medical or emergency management and instructor certifications (e.g., EMT, Paramedic) are preferred. 

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work on-site in an open office environment, based in Los Angeles, CA 
  • Sitting/Standing: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.  
  • Manual Dexterity: Proficiency in typing and using office equipment, including computers, printers, and phones.  
  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods. 

 

The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000-$140,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
