Head of Special Projects:
The Logistics department is responsible for effectively and efficiently providing materials management and logistics support to all LA28 functions. The Head of Special Projects will be responsible for overseeing a wide range of strategic pillars for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games. These areas include Project Management, HR Support, IT Integration, MDS Planning and Fuel Management. Reporting to the Senior Director of Logistics, the Head of Special Projects will help facilitate all aspects of operations, from planning and procurement to execution. This position will play a critical role in identifying and addressing operational gaps, ensuring continuity and support across functional areas to maintain overall logistics efficiency and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Stand up Special Project sub-stream within Logistics to address emerging priorities and drive strategic initiatives
- Develop staffing plans, interview, hire and supervise multi-specialty team
- Develop and implement a wide range of specialty logistics strategies for the LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games:
- Project Management
- HR Protocols
- IT Support
- Master Delivery Schedule (MDS)
- Fuel-related operations
- Identify and analyze critical activities to develop contingency and emergency plans
- Set and manage expectations with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes
- Provide emergency operational manpower to the Logistics Function
- Oversee the development and execution of recruitment, training, retention and support operations for temporary Logistics staff
- Create the strategy for verifying temporary staff timesheets
- Manage the integration of Logistics systems within games network
- Oversee the sourcing creation of systems and tools to streamline IT and manual functions for warehousing, venues and vendor/supplier operations in an event environment
- In consultation with LA28 Technology team, manage the production, testing, and implementation of external Logistics related software
- Lead the market research for a Master Delivery Schedule (MDS) system
- Working with LOG IT and LA28 Technology team, oversee the integration of the MDS system
- Provide support operations to the MDS team, as required
- Oversee the administration and implementation of fuel operations across all venues
- Engage fuel supplier and help design process
- In consultation with Finance, oversee the tracking of on-venue fuel use from delivery partners, ensuring accountability and cost control
Background & Requirements:
- 8+ years of management experience in one or more of the following specialty areas:
- Project Management
- HR protocols
- IT support
- MDS implementation
- Fuel-related operations
- Previous games experience in Logistics
- Competence to present and clearly communicate to audiences in a multitude of public / private settings, as required
- Willing to work on complex, tight, immovable timelines while maintaining a positive attitude, exhibiting patience, persistence and attention to detail
- Demonstrated success in independently developing effective processes and procedures from scratch, without reliance on existing models
- Experience working in a multi-cultural, multi-national environment
Expectations:
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of a number of Logistics sub-functions
- Team player with the ability to pivot / adapt, scale up and down planning principles to execution
- Collaborative, flexible approach with an ability to roll with the transitional nature of the organization as it grows and establishes itself over the next 3 - 4 years
- Experience in drafting technical documents, policies and procedures
- Must be proficient with computers as well as Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook)
- Confident self-starter
- Ability to make quick decisions, gathering input from key stakeholders and advancing the initiative forward and drive both flawless execution
Education:
- An undergraduate degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or relevant field preferred / Managerial certification
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Expectation to work in LA28 offices in Los Angeles
- Primarily office-based with extended periods of sitting, working on a computer, and attending virtual or in-person meetings
- Occasional travel to various venues, warehouses, or vendor meetings may be required
The annual base salary range for this position is $150,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.
