The Senior Revenue & GL Accountant (SaaS) position is a key role that has responsibility for managing several key business areas. The primary objective of this individual is to own, develop and manage timely and accurate revenue accounting for the business. This role is expected to spend 75%+ focused on revenue recognition and accounting with up to 25% supporting other GL related accounting as required. This role reports to the Director of Accounting/Controller.
What you'll do:
- Review customer contracts to determine proper revenue recognition timing and treatment based on ASC 606 guidelines.
- Calculate and record monthly recurring revenue (MRR), subscription fees, usage-based fees, and other revenue streams.
- Manage deferred revenue schedules and accurately recognize revenue over the contract term.
- Perform month-end close activities including revenue accruals and reconciliations.
- Analyze complex contracts with non-standard terms to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
- Identify potential revenue risks and opportunities related to contract terms and billing arrangements.
- Collaborate with sales and legal teams to address contract-related accounting issues.
- Implement and maintain accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce) to accurately track revenue data.
- Develop and document revenue recognition policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Identify opportunities to automate revenue processes and improve efficiency.
- Partner with sales teams to understand new product offerings and their impact on revenue recognition.
- Work with the billing team to ensure accurate invoicing and timely revenue collection.
- Collaborate with customer success to address customer inquiries related to billing and contract terms.
- Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audits related to revenue recognition.
- Respond to auditor requests and address any identified issues.
- Support other non-revenue related GL related close activities as needed.
What you'll have:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Accounting, or related discipline.
- CPA Required
- Strong understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition standards
- Proven experience in SaaS revenue accounting, preferably in a fast-growing company (full ownership of 606 revenue accounting)
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- 6+ years of experience in revenue accounting
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Salesforce). Individual will be responsible for managing revenue recognition in a combination of NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management and offline spreadsheets.
- Proven experience building strong high trust relationships across executive leadership/senior management teams
- Highly proficient in the use of the Microsoft Excel and solid proficiency in the other Microsoft Office suite (Power Point, Word).
- High level of attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Solid quantitative and presentation skills
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage priorities and projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
