Senior Counsel

Utah, New York, or California

Job Overview:

Lola Blankets, the creator of the world’s softest luxury faux fur blankets, is seeking a Senior Counsel to serve as Lola’s first in-house legal counsel. This role will be a strategic legal and business partner to the leadership team — enabling the company’s next phase of growth while protecting its interests, intellectual property, and brand.

Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, with direct access to the CEO and leadership team, the ideal candidate will hold a JD with active bar membership and have a proven track record in commercial legal work, IP protection, and marketing contracts, and will thrive in a dynamic, high-growth environment supporting a hybrid team.

Core Responsibilities:

Contracts & Legal Oversight

  • Lead contract negotiations with vendors, influencers, affiliates and agencies to ensure clarity, enforceability, and brand protection.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure contract strategy and partnerships align with business strategy and risk tolerance.
  • Design and implement Lola’s contract management process to reduce friction for the Marketing and Operations teams.

Intellectual Property

  • Build Lola’s IP strategy, including managing and enforcing company trademarks, in coordination with IP counsel as needed.
  • Monitor for brand and product IP infringement; evaluate and respond to third-party IP claims.
  • Ensure IP ownership is properly captured in vendor, contractor, and employee agreements.

Marketing and Ecomm

  • Advise on FTC endorsement and advertising guidelines, ensuring influencer, affiliate, and paid partnership disclosures meet regulatory requirements across all marketing channels.
  • Oversee website legal compliance, including data privacy obligations, cookie consent and privacy policy maintenance, and ADA accessibility requirements; partner with the Ecomm and tech teams to implement and audit controls.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate wholesale and retail partner agreements, including MAP policies, co-op advertising, and return and chargeback provisions to protect brand and commercial interests.

Product and Operations

  • Review and negotiate manufacturer, supplier, and 3PL agreements; identify supply chain legal exposures and ensure contract terms align with operational and risk management objectives.
  • Advise on product safety, labeling, and regulatory compliance for textile and home goods; monitor relevant regulatory developments and partner with sourcing and product teams to maintain ongoing compliance.

Risk Management

  • Proactively identify and assess legal and regulatory risks across the business, flagging material issues to leadership and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Partner with Operations, Finance, and Marketing to embed risk awareness into key decisions — including product launches, new market entry, and vendor relationships.
  • Review and maintain appropriate business insurance coverage (product liability, cyber, E&O, etc.) as the company scales.
  • Stay informed on evolving legal and regulatory standards; proactively update internal processes and policies.

Litigation & Disputes

  • Manage and resolve any business disputes, including coordinating with outside counsel on any litigation or arbitration matters.

Internal Employment & HR Legal Partnership

  • Serve as the legal advisor to the Head of People & Culture on all employment-related matters, ensuring compliance while supporting a high-performance, values-driven culture.
  • Partner with the Head of People & Culture to proactively mitigate employment-related risk and proactively recommend updates to internal policies.

Qualifications

  • JD required with active bar membership in at least one US jurisdiction.
  • 7+ years of experience in commercial legal work, compliance, and contract management, ideally in-house in a fast-paced consumer or e-commerce environment.
  • Experience with trademark management and IP enforcement required.
  • Experience advising on e-commerce, advertising, data privacy, and consumer brand matters strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional judgment and ability to manage sensitive matters with discretion in a fast-moving company.
  • A 'business-first' approach to legal—the ability to find a 'yes' that manages risk rather than just saying 'no'."
  • Strong communicator with a collaborative, hands-on approach.

Compensation and Perks:

  • 21 days paid vacation + all federal holidays (except parts of Thanksgiving 🙂)
  • Full health benefits
  • 16 weeks of paid birth parent leave available. 8 weeks non-birth parent leave
  • 55% off Lola Blankets for friends and family
  • Opportunities for career growth and leadership roles within Lola Blankets
