Controls Engineer II
The Controls Engineer II will work with cross-functional teams to support production, design, validate, and roll-out equipment to full high-volume production. The candidate will be key in driving standardization across all manufacturing lines and processes as well as with all other manufacturing product lines and Lucid Motors factories.
This position will work closely with Maintenance, external equipment integrators and internally with Product Design Engineering, Quality, and Production, to bring Lucid Motors components from initial design, through prototype development and finally into full production.

You Will.
- Be experienced in Controls & Automation for BIW Maintenance and supporting Lucid Engineering / Manufacturing Group’s specific needs and requirements for Controls & Automation.
- Support daily production including off shift and weekend support.
- Ability to troubleshoot through root cause analysis and provide technical support for daily plant operations.
- Supports design specifications for RFQ’s.
- Assist on approve equipment and control designs in accordance to Lucid and local regulations and manages suppliers performance to build schedule for Automation and Controls.
- Interact and direct vendors to provide equipment and tooling to our standards and performance expectations.
- Prepare suitable training documentation to enable experience passed on to maintenance team technicians.
- Launch equipment and tooling to production floor and support on-going production throughout program cycle.
- Develop and maintain process documentation and assist with quality documentation.
- Must be capable of working with peers, subordinates, supervisors, and management on a multidisciplinary team.
Project coordination, champions and supports Lucid Engineering / Manufacturing Group’s specific needs and requirements regarding the scope, specifications & best practice procedures.
- Take ownership of the technical management of the products. Address Lucid technical questions and follow up to ensure all action items are completed.
- Support internal Lucid Customers, assesses needs regarding priorities, deadlines, and quantities, driving suppliers for on time deliverables.
- Track and support equipment trials for SOP.
- Train Maintenance Associates on techniques and processes.
- Assist with new product launches, i.e., equipment, tooling and auxiliary equipment installation and debug.
- Work closely with multiple departments to improve manufacturing processes.
- Travel 0-25% to visit suppliers (US and International).
- Effective skill in establishing and maintaining working relationships with a wide range of individuals from varying economic, social, and educational backgrounds in a manufacturing environment.
You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years Hands on Controls and Robotic Engineering experience in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with process integration and electromechanical / mechatronic systems
- Skilled with Allen Bradley PLC, Fanuc robots, Atlas Copco manufacturing equipment, Aluminum joining processes (SPR, Adhesive, Laser welding, Flow drill screwing.)
- Strong time management and analysis skills.
- Ability to remain current with state-of-the-art technologies and practices related to the metal stamping process as well as develop innovative solutions when necessary.
- Knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A)
- Knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA).
- Proficiency programming industrial equipment:
- Ladder logic PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix and RSLogix 5000)
- Safety PLCs (Allen Bradley ControlLogix, SmartGuard, Omron, Pilz)
- Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - AB Panel view, FactoryTalk, LabView, Ignition)
- Field bus Networks (AB DeviceNet, Ethernet IP, Safety rated field bus networks)
- Serial communication (RS-232) between PLCs and instruments
- Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems
- Fanuc robots 6-7 axis
- Demonstrated excellence in programming PLCs. Must have a well-defined methodology for maintaining code structure and organization. Ability to program state machines for complex processes which involve multi-station parallel processing, pick and place automation, data acquisition, and PID control. Proven ability to design fault-tolerant systems with error handling and recovery.
- Proficiency programming and tuning variable frequency drives
- Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (LVDT and pressure transducers, dispense systems, temperature controllers, DC nutrunner torque controllers, current and power meters, etc)
- Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc) a plus
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment is highly desired.
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production desired.
- Knowledge of production quality metrics is a plus.
- Ability to use 3D CAD packages such as with SolidWorks and CATIA is a plus.
