Senior Project Scheduler
About the Position
We’re seeking a Senior Project Scheduler to support large, heavy-civil infrastructure programs across transportation and rail transit. This role is responsible for reviewing and analyzing contractor schedules, overseeing schedule management efforts, and supporting schedule development activities, including what-if scenario analysis and ongoing schedule maintenance. The position also supports weekly and monthly reporting on schedule performance, analysis, and project progress.
This is a long-term, full-time, hybrid position (3-4 days per week in office) located in Sacramento, CA, with a 50% travel expectation.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following
- Provide schedule development, maintenance, and reporting across program and project schedules.
- Develop, align, and correlate schedule activities with associated design plans, ensuring durations and sequencing accurately reflect planned construction approaches.
- Establish and maintain the basis of schedule durations, updating activities and durations as design progresses to reflect evolving construction assumptions.
- Manage schedule progress, including tracking duration changes and validating the basis for schedule updates.
- Develop and document schedule assumptions, including identification of key elements not fully captured in structural schedules (such as utility relocations, environmental constraints, seasonal restrictions, and procurement activities).
- Perform review and analysis of in-progress schedules to ensure alignment with future planned construction activities, including comparison of current versus planned duration assumptions.
- Conduct schedule reviews to assess reliability, identify risks, and support risk analysis and mitigation planning.
- Provide recommendations to improve schedule quality, accuracy, and overall reliability.
- Identify critical path and longest path activities, and monitor impacts to overall project timelines.
- Support ongoing schedule reporting and analysis as required.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, quantity surveying, engineering, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
- 8+ years' progressive experience in project scheduling for heavy civil transportation or transit projects.
- Deep knowledge of rail and roadway transportation projects and disciplines.
- Experience developing construction schedules from preliminary and/or conceptual plans.
- Develop and document the basis of schedule development, including assumptions, duration calculations, sequencing logic, and key constraints.
- Identify, assess, and document schedule risks, including potential impacts and recommended mitigation strategies.
- Experience conducting critical path and variance analyses, preparing Time Impact Analyses, and quantifying schedule risk using Monte Carlo or similar methods.
- Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6 and MS Excel.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g., Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in construction management, quantity surveying, or engineering.
- Active professional certifications such as PSP or PMI-SP (AACE or PMI).
- Demonstrated success in this role as an owner’s representative on large civil infrastructure programs is strongly preferred.
- Experience in rail construction, rail and roadway tunnel construction, rail and roadway bridge construction, retaining wall systems and other systems and structures associated with the operation of a railway.
- Experience with TILOS and linear scheduling.
- Proficiency with schedule risk analysis tools (e.g., Primavera Risk, Deltek Acumen Fuse, @Risk, etc.)
- Proficiency with Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms for building interactive schedule dashboards and KPI visualizations.
Compensation Details
Expected Salary: $166k-$200k/year ($80-$96/hour). Luster provides the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might offer for this position based on the successful candidate’s level of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, education, certifications, licenses, geographic location, etc. Luster reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to any status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
