Sales Engineering Director - MaraTech

SUMMARY

These solutions have been rigorously tested, utilized, and innovated within our own internal business units, Mara Utilities and Energy Harvesting.

MaraTech will showcase our advanced solutions and deepen our partnership with Mara Utilities and Mara Energy. The Business Development Manager - Utilities and Energy Harvesting will spearhead this relationship on behalf of MaraTech, building long-term relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This role will influence decisions through a collaborative, data-driven approach focused on driving technology innovation, adoption, and public endorsement across the two groups. Additionally, the Business Development Manager will direct and coordinate MaraTech resources to ensure alignment and maximize the impact of our solutions. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Product Differentiation: Drive MaraTech’s products to outshine the competition, meeting and exceeding the needs of Mara Utilities and Mara Energy with innovative and high-performance solutions.
  2. Strategic Growth: Position MaraTech as the leader in tailored tech solutions, seizing growth opportunities within Marathon and beyond.
  3. Customer-Centric Approach: Forge strong, collaborative relationships with Mara Utilities and Mara Energy, tailoring solutions to their unique needs and challenges.
  4. Innovation and Adaptation: Spearhead innovation by collaborating closely with internal teams, ensuring our products evolve with market demands and technological advancements.
  5. Alignment with Strategic Goals: Align with Marathon’s goals of fostering innovation, enhancing customer relationships, and driving growth, establishing MaraTech as a pivotal player in this transition.
  6. Embedded Approach: Become a trusted advisor to Mara Utilities and Energy Harvesting, seamlessly integrating with their team while reporting to MaraTech’s SVP.
  7. Market Credibility: Leverage Mara Utilities’ endorsement to boost MaraTech’s industry standing, attract new customers, and strengthen our market leadership.

Key Performance Indicators

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the Business Development Manager - Utilities and Energy Harvesting are designed to reflect three critical areas: supporting Mara Utilities and Energy to meet their own KPIs, positioning MaraTech as the primary technology provider for these groups and driving innovation and adoption that can be repackaged for the external market, all while meeting revenue and margin goals that support the MaraTech business plan.

Supporting Mara Utilities and Energy KPIs: 1. Adoption Rates and Satisfaction:

  1. Adoption Boost: Track the increased usage of MaraTech products by Mara Utilities and Energy, ensuring alignment with their operational goals.
  2. Customer Satisfaction Score (CSAT): Measure satisfaction levels of Mara Utilities and Energy with MaraTech solutions, ensuring we meet and exceed their expectations.
  3. Net Promoter Score (NPS): Assess the likelihood of Mara Utilities and Energy to recommend MaraTech solutions, reflecting our effectiveness in meeting their needs.

Positioning MaraTech as the Primary Technology Provider: 2. Market and Partnership Engagement:

  1. Partnership Wins: Track the number of new initiatives and collaborations with Mara Utilities and Energy, strengthening our relationship and reinforcing our position as their primary technology provider.
  2. Reference Power: Evaluate the effectiveness of success stories and case studies in positioning MaraTech as the go-to technology provider for Mara Utilities and Energy.
  3. Joint Promotion Count: Assess the impact of co-branded efforts and joint promotions on brand visibility and market reach.

Driving Innovation and Adoption for the External Market: 3. Innovation and Technology Advancement:

  1. Innovation Collaboration: Foster early adoption of new technologies within Mara Utilities and Energy, ensuring that innovations can be repackaged for external markets.
  2. Deployment Speed: Measure the efficiency in rolling out innovative technologies within Mara Utilities and Energy, ensuring timely adoption and market readiness.
  3. Innovation Benefit: Link the benefits of MaraTech solutions to improvements in Mara Utilities and Energy’s KPIs, showcasing tangible value that can be marketed externally.

Meeting Revenue and Margin Goals: 4. Financial Performance:

  1. Revenue Growth: Track the increase in revenue generated from Mara Utilities and Energy, ensuring alignment with MaraTech’s business plan.
  2. Profit Margins: Monitor the profitability of sales to Mara Utilities and Energy, ensuring sustainable financial performance.
  3. Market Share Expansion: Measure MaraTech’s success in expanding its market presence both internally with Mara Utilities and Energy and externally.

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE  

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in engineering, environmental science, business, operations, management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in business development, sales, or marketing roles, preferably within the technology, renewable energy industry, or related sectors such as clean technology, energy efficiency, or environmental consulting.
  • In-depth understanding of renewable energy technologies, market trends, and industry dynamics, including solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, geothermal, and energy storage.
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills with the ability to build rapport, influence decision-makers, and close deals effectively.
  • Ability to conduct market research, competitive analysis, and feasibility studies to identify new business opportunities, assess market demand, and position the company's offerings competitively.
  • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills to establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including potential clients, industry partners, investors, and government agencies.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts and value propositions clearly and persuasively.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams, including engineering, finance, legal, and operations, to develop and execute business development initiatives.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for innovation, sustainability, and driving positive change in the renewable energy industry.
  • This role requires strategic thinking.
