Role Overview
The Senior Director provides the vision, strategic leadership and management of the principal and major gift donor audience. The Senior Director is charged with maturing high-touch donor engagement through the implementation of business systems, processes, and infrastructure for the engagement of principal and major donor audience.
The program engages donors giving more than $25,000 annually and currently raises approximately $135M annually. The program is a high growth opportunity through plans to grow the team, mature infrastructure for high-touch 1:1 donor engagement, develop an executive and Board of Advisors donor engagement strategy, and conduct principal donor stewardship.
This role is a member of the Development Management Team.
Department Accountabilities
Prospecting
Pursue strategic opportunities in coherence with MSF-USA´s strategy, that creates long-term value for the movement by identifying and developing new audience segments or donors for its mission.
Donor Cultivation, Engagement and Management
Build trust and loyalty with potential and existing donors. At the simplest level, update donors on activities. At a more complex level, build long-term relationships with key donors and key donor segments. Take overall responsibility for designing, developing, and delivering the donor engagement strategy. May be through channels or through personal relationships.
Fundraising
Secure reliable, sustainable and efficient resources in alignment with MSF-US commitments.
Brand Positioning
Drive awareness and consideration through brand positioning based on the brand strategy and implement brand plans.
Best-in-Class Fundraising Systems and Capabilities
Deploy and champion the latest technological systems and capabilities that push the boundaries of what Development can produce for its donors.

Donor Experience Mapping
Provide strategic leadership in integrating donor perspective and navigation across lines of the organization or organizational functions through touchpoints throughout the donor journey.
Donor Relationship Development
Develop and implement a relationship management plan for strategic, complex global potential accounts to build key relationships at local, national, and corporate levels. Coordinate the engagement of own organization with the donor organization to ensure effective two-way flow of information and resolution of issues.

Manage strategic client and donor relationships, typically by deploying large account teams to ensure ongoing donor intimacy and loyalty toward the organization
Donor Experience Strategy
Apply strategic insight on industry and donor trends, working with the marketing function to integrate those insights into the development of the CX strategy, then translating this strategy into a organizational plan and annual targets.
Key Account Management
Manage a portfolio of key and strategic donor relationships either personally or through a medium to large team of account managers. Develop and execute tailored solutions and strategies for donors that ensure their ongoing satisfaction and loyalty while also enhancing profitability.
Performance Management
Manage and report on the performance of the function / business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.

Desired Qualifications & Experience
At a minimum the Job Holder should possess:
- Senior experience in managing big, diverse, and opinionated teams, and leading change.
- Demonstrated success as a high-touch fundraiser
Travel Requirements
Ability to travel for donor visits, MSF events, and industry events, with up to 50% of time spent traveling.
Compensation
$173,720 to $269,265; In alignment with MSF USA’s compensation framework, new hires are generally offered between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on relevant experience, skills, and internal equity.

Our staff works a hybrid schedule with the ability to come into the NYC office a minimum of 2 times a week. The required days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays from January to June and September to December.
In office work attendance during July and August is optional.
