Storage Engineer III
The NFL is looking for a storage engineer to join an innovative team of solutions engineers and architects. This individual will function as a subject matter expert (SME) and will be expected to make technical decisions on storage systems supporting critical services. The SME is expected to configure, document, and troubleshoot storage systems for applications, media workflows, and game related services. The SME must have a strong technical background, with experience in the development of high-performance SAN and NAS storage solutions. A successful SME will be a self-starter with an ownership attitude and excellent communication skills that is able to work within a team that delivers cutting edge solutions on tight deadlines.
This role will require working weekends, holidays, shifts outside of normal business hours, and overtime. It will also require travel between offices domestically in NY, NJ, and CA, and stadiums throughout North America and Internationally for installations, maintenance, and support.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the installation, operation, administration, and maintenance storage systems at corporate offices and stadiums. This position will take an accountable role for storage systems, replication, backups and archiving workflows working with a team of engineers.
- Responds to technical escalations for storage related service issues, working with product support teams, IT staff and business groups to ensure resolution.
- Sets standards and monitors the performance and status of the storage systems. Implements tools and automation to accomplish this responsibility.
- Function as a subject matter expert for SAN/NAS storage technology, representing the NFL IT Department internally to the NFL and Clubs and externally to Stadium Authorities and vendors.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining storage diagrams, configurations, support, and training documentation.
- Able to provide reports for storage KPIs to show service levels, capacity analysis, performance, troubleshooting, and areas for improvement in storage infrastructure.
- Remains on the cutting edge by studying state-of-the-art storage technologies, participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- NAS/SAN/Storage upgrades, provisioning, migrations, security remediation, patching and maintenance.
- Develop, design and document road maps for upgrades and implementations of new infrastructure technologies.
- Collaborate with engineers and operations team through technical escalations, procedures, and project tasks.
- Experienced technologist able to understand complexities and interdependencies in infrastructure through the applications and client layers.
- Provide technical support for various activities and internal infrastructure within the company.
- Assist in the research, design and documentation for upgrades and adoption of new storage technologies.
- Responsible for effectively engaging with IT project management and reporting project status.
- Protects intellectual property and operations by keeping confidential information.
- Establish and adhere to set project plans and release dates.
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as directed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent field experience and related certifications
- 5 - 8 years relevant experience, including hands on storage implementation and lifecycle maintenance.
- Advanced degree of knowledge of storage hardware (NetApp preferred).
- In depth experience supporting NetApp storage arrays in complex environments
- Strong knowledge of NAS protocols (SMB/CIFS, iSCSI, NFS, DFS and ZFS)
- Experience with the transfer of data to/from cloud offerings such as AWS S3.
- Experience with Cloud-NAS gateways.
- Experience with migrating large datasets (block and file level) across vendor platforms.
- Knowledge of security models and ACLs
- Experience working with virtualization technology preferably VMWare.
- Familiarity with multi-pathing and other high availability configurations on the server side.
- Understanding of IP storage networking including VLAN tagging, routing and L2 switching.
- Ability to troubleshoot storage related issues on both windows and linux platforms.
- Ability to correlate event data between network, storage, and systems.
- Strong analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work both independently and as a contributor in a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness and drive to learn new technologies and concepts.
- Ability to identify automation opportunities and implement scripted solutions.
- Utilize standard tools and methodology to develop system and support performance metrics.
- Ability to monitor and validate backup systems.
- Ability to balance project-based workloads and daily tasks.
- Strong technical background in a hosted services environment.

Terms / Expected Hours of Work
- NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week in office when not traveling for work.
- FLSA exempt.

Salary / Pay Range

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
Salary
$115,000 - $150,000 USD
