Manager, Communications

This position will help lead and manage the day-to-day work of the News Bureau, a proactive communications and media monitoring operation embedded within the NFL Communications Department focused on capturing, analyzing and shaping the news to advance the league’s mission and priorities. The Manager will possess a strategic mindset and constantly evolve to meet a rapidly changing media industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Help lead the News Bureau, proactively pitching story ideas and securing placement of positive NFL coverage, establishing relationships with new reporters, regularly deploying surrogates in the press and delivering timely and informative written content to key stakeholders.
  • Maintain the league’s editorial calendar and work to shape it into a strategic, proactive tool.
  • Help manage the department’s future-focused work, whether it’s reaching new audiences through non-traditional media, deploying AI or leveraging data and insights to better secure coverage.
  • Help oversee the media monitoring operation to track, measure, analyze and shape the news.
  • Work closely with other members of the team to monitor, identify and distribute timely NFL news items.
  • Analyze news important to the league and deliver coverage reports to executives in real time.
  • Work closely with internal experts to manage communications on issues like security, club ownership and finance, league polices and total wellness.
  • Support NFL executives on proactive communications strategies, including press conferences and interviews.
  • Help prepare executive briefing material and backgrounders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in communications, public relations, journalism, sports or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of PR functions including media relations, executive/talent preparation, media monitoring, storytelling and story placement and news analysis.
  • Knowledge of and interest in the NFL, current events and trends in media, marketing and business.
  • Knowledge of and relationships with key NFL media, and the ability to expand those relationships.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to proactively identify opportunities to promote NFL initiatives, employing cutting edge communications tools and strategies.

  • Knowledge of the PR field including proactive pitching, reporter pushback and constant follow-through.

  • A person with the highest moral and ethical standards, someone who can be relied upon to always act in the best long-term interests of the league.

Travel:

This position will require travel to key NFL meetings and events, including on some weekends.

Terms /Expected Hours of Work:

NFL employees are expected to work a minimum of 40 hours in the New York office. This is an exempt-level position and will require some work on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Salary / Pay Range

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries or hourly rates that the NFL believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted job in the location(s) specified. The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials, or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range. 

Salary

$90,000 - $115,000 USD

This role requires onsite presence at an NFL office or stadium location, and remote and/or hybrid working options are not offered.
