As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Security at Oportun, you will be a key member of our team, responsible for designing defenses, threat modeling, developing, and maintaining sophisticated distributed system defenses in achieving the charter of the engineering ecosystem group. Your mastery of the security domain enables you to take up business/platform problems and solve them with a technical solution. With your depth of expertise and leadership abilities, you will actively contribute to architectural decisions, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, secure, scalable software solutions that advance our impact in the market. This is a role where you will have the opportunity to take up responsibility in leading the technology effort – from technical requirements gathering to final successful delivery of the product - for large initiatives (cross-functional and multi-month-long projects).
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Data Analysis: Perform in-depth data analysis of various security signals to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement related to Oportun's financial products.
2. Market Research: Stay updated on various threat vectors, and incorporate appropriate defenses into the Oportun platform, providing insights and recommendations for product enhancements.
3. Product Development: Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and designers to contribute to the development and improvement of financial products and the platform.
4. A/B Testing: Plan, execute, and analyze A/B tests to evaluate the performance of product changes and optimize features.
5. Customer Insights: Leverage customer feedback, surveys, and research to understand user behavior, preferences, and pain points.
6. Reporting: Create and maintain detailed reports and dashboards to track the security posture and product performance and KPIs.
7. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various teams, including marketing, compliance, and operations, to align product strategies with business goals.
8. Documentation: Document findings, insights, and recommendations for product enhancements and communicate them effectively to stakeholders.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science or a relevant field
2. Demonstrated focus on Computer/Network/Information Security
3. 10+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer (Individual Contributor)
4. 3+ years of experience working as an Engineering Manager, managing people.
5. Strong analytical skills with the ability to use data to drive strategic decision-making.
6. Excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex problems and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
7. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.
You will stand out if you have one or more of the following
1. Master’s degree in computer/network/information security
2. IC work in Security including but not limited to Threat Modeling, vulnerability management, malware analysis, DoS prevention/mitigation, Authentication, Authorization, Accounting, Audit pipelines etc
3. Ability to bring a security focus across all 7 layers
4. Demonstrated delivery of impactful security enhancements/defenses in distributed systems
5. Demonstrated ability to think in a DiD model Knowledge of A/B testing
6. Familiarity with financial products and services
