ABOUT THIS ROLE
Message Lab @ Orchestra is seeking a Staff Writer to develop compelling, research-driven stories that help brands connect with their audiences. In this role, you’ll lead story development, interview sources, conduct research and collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams. You’ll write across different formats including articles, newsletters, video scripts and podcasts.
Ideal candidates have strong editorial instincts, branded content experience and a sharp eye for narrative. We’re seeking someone who is confident working with clients, translating feedback into clear, engaging content aligned with business goals.
This position reports to the Managing Editor and offers the opportunity to grow with a fast-moving, award-winning team.
Role location: This role is fully remote (within the United States).
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
As a Staff Writer at ML@O team, you will…
- Research, report and write original stories across a wide range of topics, with an emphasis on quality journalism and brand-aligned storytelling
- Interview high-level executives, thought leaders, subject-matter experts and end users with confidence and professionalism
- Collaborate closely with clients, integrating feedback and asking strategic questions to deliver work that aligns with their goals
- Partner with editors and strategists to shape editorial programs and content packages that reflect both audience needs and client objectives
- Work with designers, project managers and strategists to ensure cohesive execution across words, visuals and overall user experience
- Follow the development of content deliverables from concept to completion, ensuring deadlines are met and quality remains high
- Take ownership of task management and project timelines, providing regular updates and identifying blockers when needed
- Help evolve our editorial processes and best practices by contributing to creative ideation, editorial planning and internal collaboration
- Contribute positively to team morale and actively participate in a collaborative, respectful and feedback-rich culture
Essential skills
- 3+ years of experience in journalism, editorial or branded content, ideally within an agency or client-facing environment
- Proven ability to produce clean, compelling and structurally sound content across formats including articles, briefs, scripts and more
- Strong interviewing skills and the confidence to speak with executive-level sources as well as everyday users
- Experience writing about complex or technical subjects (e.g., finance, AI, tech and crypto) in a way that is both accessible and engaging
- Ability to write in multiple voices and tones, depending on the audience and brand
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; able to work seamlessly with editors, strategists, designers, project managers and clients
- Demonstrated ability to manage deadlines, handle multiple projects at once and take initiative when challenges arise
- Receptive to editorial feedback and able to apply revisions quickly and constructively
- Comfortable working within structured workflows and tools (e.g., content calendars, time-tracking and project management systems)
- A genuine interest in learning, growing and contributing to a culture of creativity, precision and client service

Compensation philosophy: Orchestra offers competitive industry rate salary bands with the goal of retaining and growing talented individuals. We regularly review and adjust our compensation structure as needed to ensure equity across teams and levels.
Salary (commensurate with experience and skills): $100,000
