WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

 

Per Scholas, a leading national nonprofit advancing economic equity through tech training, is seeking a Senior Communications Manager. The successful candidate will support two important areas in Marketing and Communications. The first is collaborating across the organization to lead our internal communications and ensure connectivity among colleagues. The second is to strengthen our public relations efforts by driving earned media opportunities and expanding our brand visibility.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Internal Communications:

Strategic Communication Planning

  • Lead integrated internal communications strategies to enhance connectivity and understanding among 550+ Per Scholas colleagues nationwide.
  • Develop and execute a strategic internal and executive communications plan, aligning messaging with the organization's vision, mission, culture, and market positioning.
  • Leverage technology and use innovation to manage internal communications campaigns on existing and new channels and platforms.

Content Development and Management

  • Manage the content calendar to ensure timely and relevant internal communications.
  • Produce various internal communications materials through cross-functional collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, National Leadership, People Teams and MarCom Leadership, including presentations, announcements, newsletters, and blog posts to be delivered across multiple channels.
  • Partner with MarCom leadership to craft authentic messages (“Talking Points”) for senior leaders across the organization. Serve as a partner to Per Scholas leaders, coaching them to develop a unique voice, perspective, and tailored communication strategies.

Measurement and Analysis

  • Partner with MarCom Leadership to establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and benchmarks, set goals, and measure the success of internal communications initiatives.
  • Partner with the Analytics leader to support cross-organization measurement of internal communications effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of internal communications and make recommendations for improvement.

External Communications:

Strategic Communications & Storytelling

  • Assist with the creation of compelling stories and testimonials that showcase Per Scholas’ impact, focusing on learner and graduate success, employer partnerships, and industry insights.
  • Maintain consistency in messaging across all external content, including reports, campaigns, and digital media.
  • Research, write, edit, and refine reports and projects to strengthen organizational communication and outreach.

 

Media Relations & Public Affairs

  • Craft compelling narratives, press releases, and content that engage key audiences, including journalists, donors, partners, and policymakers.
  • Manage press inquiries with journalists and media outlets to enhance Per Scholas' visibility.
  • Monitor industry trends and public policy developments to position Per Scholas as an expert in workforce development, including preparing our leadership, learners and graduates for media engagements.

 

Crisis Communications & Reputation Management

  • Support our team with crisis communication to proactively manage our organizational reputation when major issues arise.
  • Monitor media and public sentiment to address reputational challenges and opportunities in real-time.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor in responding to sensitive issues, ensuring transparency and alignment with Per Scholas’ values.



WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO US

 

Professional Requirements

  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills.
  • Strong project management skills with proficiency in platforms such as Asana.
  • Proficiency with Zoom Meetings and Zoom Webinars, Slack, Google Suite, and Microsoft Suite.
  • Proficiency with HubSpot and Salesforce.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams and to organize time accordingly
  • Excellent attention to detail; handles constructive feedback; ability to meet deadlines; willingness to continually improve competencies.
  • Solid understanding of marketing techniques and campaign creation.
  • Experience with marketing collateral development including social media content creation and management.
  • Strong understanding of knowledge management and change management plus effective communication strategies to support these types of communication messages.
  • Occasional travel to Per Scholas campuses and team meetings.

For this role, the salary range is between $65,000 - $75,000, depending on factors such as the candidate's location, qualifications, and experience.
