The Role

As a Data Engineer II, you will have architecture input, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support a rapidly evolving, data-driven organization. You will directly impact cross-functional teams by enabling efficient data flow and empowering advanced analytics and product innovation. Success in this role means delivering measurable improvements to system performance, scalability, and business insight delivery.

Key Performance Objectives

  1. Deliver Scalable Data Infrastructure
  • Architect and deploy high-performing data solutions that increase throughput and reliability of data delivery for internal consumers.
  1. Lead Data Platform Migrations
  • Support the successful migration of critical data services to modern cloud-based platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, or Databricks), ensuring zero data loss and minimal downtime.
  1. Drive Cross-Team Data Enablement
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Analytics to deliver new end-to-end data products or reporting solutions per quarter that directly support business decision-making.
  • Consistently resolve complex data issues and reduce backlog tickets related to pipeline failures and data quality within defined SLAs.
  1. Mentor and Uplift Team Performance

Provide hands-on mentorship to junior engineers, resulting in measurable improvements in code quality, design thinking, and operational ownership.

Responsibilities and Deliverable

  • Design, build, and maintain robust, secure, and scalable data pipelines and systems.
  • Assemble and curate large datasets to meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
  • Perform advanced data modeling, architecture design, and performance tuning.
  • Develop infrastructure to support real-time and batch processing workflows.
  • Optimize database performance and write advanced SQL queries for reporting and applications.
  • Resolve system and data issues with thorough root cause analysis and long-term fixes.
  • Lead internal process improvements and scalability efforts across the data stack.
  • Deliver actionable data products and insights for business-critical KPIs.

Performance Based Qualification

Education & Experience

  • Proven track record of delivering scalable data solutions, backed by 4+ years of progressive experience as a Data Engineer and/or an Associate degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and mentor junior engineers, contributing to stronger team performance and higher-quality output.

 Data Engineering & Architecture

  • Designed and implemented optimized ETL/ELT pipelines, reducing processing time and improving system reliability.
  • Applied advanced data modeling and transformation techniques, resulting in scalable, maintainable data architecture.
  • Developed robust data transformation workflows, including metadata management, dependency tracking, and workload orchestration.
  • Built and maintained pipelines using orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow or AWS Glue for seamless data ingestion and delivery.
  • Successfully designed systems supporting both batch and streaming data, enabling near real-time analytics and reporting.

Tools, Technologies & Platforms

  • Deep hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server) and NoSQL solutions (e.g., MongoDB), optimizing performance and reliability.
  • Expertise in database tuning and optimization, improving data access speed and reducing resource usage.
  • Proficient in cloud-based infrastructure, particularly AWS services like EC2, S3, Glue, and EMR (Spark), for scalable data solutions.
  • Delivered performant data platforms using modern cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, Redshift, and Databricks.
  • Automated deployments and improved delivery using version control and CI/CD pipelines, enhancing speed and reducing errors.

Performance Optimization & Reliability

  • Led initiatives to reduce pipeline failures and improve uptime, increasing data delivery consistency across products.
  • Applied root cause analysis to solve recurring data integrity issues, increasing stakeholder trust in data products.
  • Streamlined manual processes through automation, improving operational efficiency and reducing engineering overhead.

Analytics & Insights

  • Applied strong analytical skills to extract insights from large, unstructured datasets, influencing strategic business decisions.
  • Built tools and data products that unlocked self-service analytics and improved KPI visibility for stakeholders.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Effectively supported and collaborated with cross-functional teams including Product, Engineering, and Analytics to deliver business-aligned data solutions.
  • Mentored junior data engineers, enhancing team capability, reducing onboarding time, and driving knowledge sharing.
