Motor Control Technician
Build your technical foundation through hands-on work in industrial motor control and automation. We’re seeking a Motor Control Technician to support the build, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of industrial motor control and automation systems, including VFD-based solutions. This role is designed for candidates with an Associate’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience who want to build a long-term technical career through hands-on work, mentorship, and exposure to real industrial systems.
You do not need prior drives or VFD experience—we provide structured training, on-the-job learning, and close collaboration with experienced engineers and technicians to help you build skills and confidence over time.
Headquartered in Monroeville, PA, Premier Automation designs and manufactures advanced motor control, VFD, and integrated automation systems for industrial customers worldwide. You’ll work closely with engineers from panel build through field commissioning, gaining exposure to the full lifecycle of industrial control systems. - Position Type: Full-time, salaried (based on experience), with overtime eligibility
- Location & Work Environment: Based out of our Monroeville and Murrysville, PA facilities (10 minutes apart), with time split between office work, hands-on shop support, and customer sites
- Schedule & Travel: Monday–Friday, daylight hours with flexibility; some travel for commissioning, field support, and occasional on-call work (some evenings/weekends); overtime eligible

Duties and Responsibilities
As a Motor Control Technician, you will:
- Assist with the installation, checkout, and commissioning of motor control panels and VFD-based systems
- Support field startup activities to ensure systems operate safely, reliably, and as designed
- Perform testing, data collection, and documentation during commissioning and system checkout
- Assist with troubleshooting electrical, control, and automation issues under guidance
- Support manufacturing checkout and customer shop testing as needed
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, manufacturing teams, and customers throughout project execution
- Travel to customer sites for startup and service support as required
Experience and Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET), Automation, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical Technology, or a related technical field
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, motor control, or automation concepts
- Hands-on experience with electrical or automation hardware through coursework, labs, internships, or work experience
- Interest in learning PLC programming and industrial control systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, or a strong desire to learn
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Comfort working in hands-on industrial and shop environments
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform moderate physical activity
- Willingness to travel and support occasional on-call needs
- Must have or be able to obtain valid travel documents (REAL ID and passport)
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Exposure to PLCs, HMIs, or industrial control systems
- Experience with VFDs, motor starters, or control panels
- Familiarity with multimeters or basic electrical test equipment
