Job Overview

Portage is currently looking for an individual who is highly analytical and deeply passionate about fintech to join our team in Montreal or Toronto as a Research Analyst Intern. This person will play a pivotal role in supporting our team to find and support transformative, breakthrough companies in financial services.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in investment operations by working with the business team and investment team to identify pain points and research potential solutions alongside our engineering team;
  • Conduct portfolio and fund analysis and monitoring through collecting, organizing, and analyzing data from our portfolio companies;
  • Assist in research and presentation writing including analyzing data, visualizing data, and writing/designing decks.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a graduation date of Fall 2025 or Spring 2026
  • Strong academic record;
  • A strong passion and /or interest in financial services and technology;
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and in an entrepreneurial environment where things change constantly;
  • Organized with high attention to detail;
  • Team player – happy to do whatever is required to support the team;
  • Ability to attentively review, assess, and provide detailed information daily on multiple projects in an organized manner;
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to synthesize and articulate thoughts about companies and markets concisely;
  • Knowledge and familiarity with data manipulation and Excel skills;
  • Must be authorized to work in Canada;
  • Bilingualism is a strong asset (French and English).

Nice to haves:

  • Experience performing statistical analysis and building programs using R, Python, SQL and other languages
  • General experience in data analytics / data science
