SQL Server Database Administrator
Responsibilities
Shift4 Payments is expanding globally and seeking a skilled and motivated SQL Server DBA to join our DBA team, supporting the management of critical SQL Server databases that power our payments platform.
The SQL Server DBA will work under the guidance of the DBA Team Manager to ensure the health, performance, and security of SQL Server databases across geographically diverse data centers. This role involves hands-on database administration, performance tuning, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to support Shift4’s payments platform and its growth in existing and new markets.
This role is onsite based at Shift4’s Las Vegas, NV location.
Relocation assistance may be available.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and tune SQL Server database performance, including optimizing configurations, indexing, and queries to ensure high availability and efficiency.
- Implement and maintain security measures for SQL Server databases to comply with regulations such as PCI DSS, SOX, and GDPR, including access controls and encryption.
- Execute backup and recovery strategies for SQL Server databases to ensure data integrity and support business continuity, including participating in disaster recovery testing.
- Collaborate with the DBA team and other stakeholders to troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and reliable service.
- Work with Research and Development (R&D) teams to design and optimize efficient SQL Server database queries, adhering to best practices for performance and scalability.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for production SQL Server databases, following established protocols for incident response and resolution.
- Stay updated on SQL Server technologies and best practices, contributing to team knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on SQL Server DBA experience, preferably in the payments or banking industry, supporting production database administration within PCI scope.
- Strong understanding of SQL Server performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong English communication skills to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to work day shift EST work hours.
Preferred Skills (Additional experience that is a plus to have):
- Familiarity with database security practices and compliance requirements (e.g., PCI DSS, SOX, GDPR).
- Experience with PostgreSQL.
