Serving as the accountable executive, reporting to the Managing Director, Enterprise Compliance, the General Manager for Shift4 Payment UK will ensure the firm operates safely, complies with UK law and FCA expectations and delivers reliable customer outcomes. The role focuses on governance, conduct, prudential soundness, operational resilience, safeguarding, financial crime systems/controls, and regulatory engagement. The primary responsibility of the General Manager will be to implement the group strategy and oversee the day-to-day operation of Shift4 Payments UK Ltd. The ideal candidate will hold relevant SMF responsibilities and will have a proven track record of working effectively with UK regulators.
Responsibilities will include:
Relationship Management:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, partners and regulators. Serve as the entity’s senior point of contact and effective liaison with UK Regulators (FCA, PSR, etc.), proactively managing relationships and representing the entity in all high-level regulatory and supervisory meetings.
- Communicate effectively with the wider Shift4 Payments UK Ltd team and keep them informed of business activities, potential threats, opportunities and recommended actions.
Strategic Leadership:
- Support and execute the group’s approved business plan, enabling and supporting the strategy that focuses on market expansion, product innovation and distribution and operational efficiency.
- Identify potential changes and their impact on the business and communicate these to the wider Shift4 management team and executive board.
Operational Management:
- Oversee all aspects of daily acquiring operations, including transaction processing, customer service, risk management, and compliance with regulations, incl. AML, KYC, Safeguarding. Monitor and analyse financial performance, manage budgets and identify opportunities for cost reduction and revenue growth.
- Ensure the establishment and rigorous adherence to robust financial controls, operational reconciliation processes, and safeguards for all fund transfer, settlement, and other high-risk financial activities.
- Identify processes to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
- Provide periodic reports to the Managing Director and Executive Board on the implementation of the compliance monitoring program for UK operations.
Customer Focus:
- Ensure the implementation of the Consumer Duty across all business functions. Ensure positive customer experience, address enquiries, resolve issues and implement strategies to improve customer satisfaction.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Maintain a strong compliance framework, adhering to relevant regulations and industry standards and mitigate risks associated with acquiring and payment services.
The ideal candidate will bring:
Related Experience:
- Proven senior leadership experience within a UK regulated financial institution (e.g. PSP, EMI, or former bank).
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience in a senior leadership role.
- Deep understanding of UK payments regulations, FCA supervisory frameworks and card scheme requirements (Visa/Mastercard).
- Proven, recent experience working directly with the FCA and representing a regulated entity in supervisory, board-level, or C-suite regulatory meetings.
- A background that demonstrates proficiency in both Financial Control and Regulatory Compliance, with the ability to provide expert oversight across Risk and Operations.Experience managing cross-functional teams in a matrixed, global organisation.
- Demonstrated success in scaling or supporting business growth in a fintech or financial services environment.

Education & Credentials:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Banking, Finance, or related field.
- MBA or postgraduate qualification.
- PSD2 or SMF (Senior Management Function) approved.
