What you will be doing:

  • Lead, mentor, and cultivate a team of directors, managers, and underwriters, providing guidance and support.
  • Establish and implement policies and procedures and identify KPIs to efficiently measure and monitor departmental financial and performance trends.
  • Develop and direct execution of tactical and strategic underwriting plans and practices for the commercial residential line of business.
  • Implement and monitor an effective underwriting strategy that supports Slide’s profit goals and objectives.
  • Analyze competitive marketing data, market and industry research, loss ratios, business, premium growth, hit ratios and business retention to identify territorial and Company needs.
  • Develop and implement action plans that align with Slide’s growth and profitability strategies.
  • Recognize opportunities to penetrate new markets. Take advantage of all critical opportunities to increase market share for commercial residential business.
  • Perform due diligence on potential new markets including developing definition, entry strategy, identifying scope and capital costs, etc.
  • Develop and track metrics and success criteria for commercial residential underwriting programs and activities.
  • Utilize knowledge of the industry to drive business growth by identifying and assessing new business opportunities for the commercial residential line of business.
  • Exemplify collaboration, teamwork and unified goals when working with peer leaders to secure resources, vetting out business opportunities, and delivering on value proposition of service.
  • Provide leadership to team members and regularly conduct effective and timely structured Performance Feedback sessions.
  • Develop and implement training and professional development for CRES underwriting employees, collaborating with the Training & QA department where necessary.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance management reports and metrics to ensure relevancy.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, regulations, and industry events which pertain to underwriting, with a particular focus on Commercial Residential business.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

What you already have:

Education, Experience, and Licensing:

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in Insurance, Finance, Risk Management, Business Administration, or related degree.
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in the P&C insurance industry; direct experience with Commercial Residential insurance required.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience with increasing responsibility as an underwriting and product leader with a history of achieving and surpassing profitability and growth targets.
  • 5+ years of experience successfully building and leading a high-performing team.
  • Experience working with an independent agent distribution model.
  • Industry designations or certifications a plus.

  • Skilled at bringing a team together to move in one direction.
  • Data-driven, analytical approach necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to plan and prioritize effectively.
  • Proficient in MSO/365 applications such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
