Sr. Software Engineer II - Ai

Bellevue, WA, USA

For over 20 years, Smartsheet has helped people and teams achieve–well, anything. From seamless work management to smart, scalable solutions, we’ve always worked with flow. We’re building tools that empower teams to automate the manual, uncover insights, and scale smarter. But more than that, we’re creating space– space to think big, take action, and unlock the kind of work that truly matters. Because when challenge meets purpose, and passion turns into progress, that’s magic at work, and it’s what we show up for everyday.

At Smartsheet, we’re building the next generation of agentic capabilities across our collaborative work management platform — intelligent systems that can reason, plan, and act to help our customers move faster and focus on what matters most.

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll design and implement the systems and experiences that power Smartsheet’s agentic capabilities — from backend orchestration and reasoning layers to intuitive, dynamic frontend interfaces. You’ll collaborate across AI, platform, and product teams to deliver seamless AI-driven experiences for millions of users, leveraging AI tools throughout development to accelerate delivery and raise quality.

You will report to our Engineering Leader located in our Bellevue, WA office, or you may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

  • Design and implement both backend and frontend components of agentic experiences — enabling autonomous planning, decision-making, and user interaction across Smartsheet.
  • Build integrations with AWS and internal frameworks to deliver secure, scalable AI-powered execution pipelines.
  • Translate LLM reasoning into consistent, testable, and explainable user-facing behaviors.
  • Create modern, interactive frontend interfaces (React/TypeScript) that surface AI reasoning, results, and actions clearly and intuitively.
  • Define and implement safe execution patterns, monitoring, and evaluation pipelines for agentic actions.
  • Use AI-assisted tools (Copilot, Cody, Cursor, internal copilots) for coding, UI prototyping, testing, and documentation to improve engineering velocity and quality.
  • Collaborate closely with AI, product, and UX partners to ship production-ready agentic experiences quickly and responsibly.

You Have:

  • 7+ years software development experience building highly scalable, highly available applications
  • 7+ years of programming experience with full stack technologies such as TypeScript, Go, Java, or Python.
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, etc.)
  • Experience developing, documenting, and supporting REST APIs
  • 1+ years professional experience designing, building, and maintaining AI-augmented features for enterprise SaaS products
  • Familiarity with orchestration or agentic frameworks (LangGraph, Swarm, CrewAI, event-driven systems).
  • Experience developing production-grade frontend applications (React, Next.js, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of API design, service reliability, and observability.
  • Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools for coding, testing, and UI design.
  • Passion for building systems and interfaces that empower teams and scale human creativity.
  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis
