Sr. Manager, Business & Legal Affairs (1 Year Maternity Cover)

Asia, Korea, Seoul

(This is a fixed-term position to cover maternity leave and ensure continuity of legal support during the leave period.) 

As a Manager, Business & Legal Affairs, you will be mainly responsible for reviewing contracts relating to the business operationsYou will also provide basic legal opinions to enable management to make appropriate decisions in compliance with contractual and legal obligations in Korea.  

 

What you'll do:

Basic Legal Support For Business Operations 

  • Reviewing contracts relating to the business operations, including distribution deals, catalogue acquisition deals, artist contracts, investment-related deals, live events, marketing activities and service agreements.
  • Providing legal support and analysis to support management’s decision-making. (Relevant Laws: Copyright Act, Anti-Competition Act, Civil Act, Commercial Code, Privacy Act, Labor Act, Framework Act on Artificial Intelligence, Fair trade–related laws, including the Electronic Commerce Act).
  • Supporting effective communication between the headquarters and Korea office to ensure compliance with Sony Music Entertainments policies.

Support For Resolving Business Related Disputes 

  • Supporting internal discussions on disputer solution strategies.
  • Supporting management discussions by summarizing legal considerations.
  • Providing support to external counsel during litigation proceedings.

Collaboration With Relevant Organizations On Laws and Policies 

  • Keeping informed of legislative or policy changes that may affect the industry.
  • Supporting communications with industry associations, as needed.

 

Who you are:

Technical Capabilities:  

[Requirements] 

  • Qualified as a lawyer in Korea or in the US (markets can differ) OR a bachelors degree in law in Korea and min. 3~5+ years of legal experience in the entertainment industry.
  • Fluent in Korean and English. Excellent organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written 
  • Ability to work independently, but also fully communicate with the supervisor, and other internal/external stakeholders.

[Preferred Qualifications] 

  • 5~7+ years of legal-related experience (in-house experience preferred) in the entertainment industry, especially focused on music.
  • Onsite experience in a music business-related department and experience collaborating with music industry organizations.
