ABOUT THE ROLE
Techno is hiring an Assistant Resident Engineer to support on-site construction oversight for a large-scale wastewater facility upgrade in Staten Island. This role sits within an active treatment plant environment, where ongoing operations and construction activities must be carefully coordinated.
You’ll be embedded in the field, working closely with project leadership to help manage contractor execution, track progress, and respond to real-time site conditions. The work involves complex sequencing across multiple disciplines and requires a strong understanding of how construction activities interact within a live utility setting.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Support oversight of ongoing construction across structural, mechanical, and site utility work
- Conduct site walks to confirm installation aligns with contract plans and technical requirements
- Observe contractor operations and flag conflicts, inefficiencies, or constructability concerns
- Maintain daily field records including activity reports, progress tracking, and photo documentation
- Assist in reviewing RFIs, shop drawings, and submittals with a focus on field applicability
- Verify quantities installed and contribute to progress payment validation
- Coordinate directly with contractors, inspectors, and design teams to resolve site conditions
- Organize and maintain project documentation, including logs, reports, and correspondence
- Reinforce site safety expectations and monitor adherence to environmental and permit conditions
- Participate in system start-up activities, punch list walkthroughs, and closeout coordination
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- 3–7 years of experience supporting construction projects in a field-based role
- Exposure to water, wastewater, or heavy civil infrastructure projects preferred
- Familiarity with treatment plant environments, process systems, or utility coordination is advantageous
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Comfortable working full-time on-site in an active construction setting
- Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple stakeholders
- EIT certification preferred; PE is a plus
- Experience working with NYC public agencies or similar regulatory environments is beneficial

The expected salary range for this role in the New York City Metropolitan Area is $85 - $95 per hour. The total compensation, including salary and bonuses, is determined by various factors such as experience, skill level, location, and qualifications, which are evaluated during the interview process
