Job Description

We're doing some incredible work in the Legal team and building the foundation for the hypergrowth that Tekion is undergoing. In this role, you will work on some of the most strategic initiatives of the company and will partner cross-functionally with our brilliant innovators across teams. Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with our Product, Engineering, Design, Compliance, and other teams to provide practical and actionable advice as we launch new and exciting products. 
  • Serve as the primary legal advisor, providing front-line support to product managers, engineers, sales, marketing, and others on matters related to product development, compliance, data privacy, and AI usage.
  • Monitor and interpret changes to laws and policies relevant to product goals and objectives, including privacy, AI governance, and updates and regulatory changes affecting automotive marketing and sales.
  • Assess risk and regulatory changes, prioritize them for Tekion's products and services, and implement necessary changes.
  • Create and implement policies, practices, and tools to ensure consistent and scalable implementation of legal guidance and alignment on risks

Experience & Requirements

  • At least 7 years of legal experience, with at least 2 years of in-house experience working with product and engineering teams.
  • A strong mix of legal, technical, and business acumen that will allow you to understand and discuss complex technical issues and data flows.
  • Experience providing clear and actionable advice on developing consumer-facing tools (e.g., digital retail tools, customer management software (CRM), and chatbots), consumer financing rules and regulations, and/or consumer advertising.
  • A deep understanding of automotive regulations, and industry trends—particularly U.S., Canadian, and European requirements for the automotive industry.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Developing B2B products and services using security and privacy by design principles;
    • Deep regulatory knowledge of state,federal and global rules affecting the automotive industry (GLBA; FTC Safeguards Rule; and dealer data sharing laws); and
    • Experience with intellectual property issues in products (e.g., licensing data to/from third parties and identifying product innovations warranting IP protection).
  • JD from a recognized U.S. law school and licensed to practice in at least one US jurisdiction (preferably California).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively • Demonstrate the ability not only to perform assigned tasks but also to contribute ideas and participate in the development of the Legal team, enhancing its processes, tools, partnerships, and visibility across Tekion.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with teams across different time zones.
  • Attention to detail, willingness to roll up their sleeves to get into the details and drive creative solutions but ability to think on the fly and drive efficient deal process and fast decision making.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to create and sustain lasting relationships.

Additional Nice-to-Have Experience

  • Extensive experience with U.S. and EU (including UK) data privacy laws and regulations, including practical application and compliance strategies.
  • Solid understanding of AI implementation and usage, with experience in managing AI-related legal and ethical considerations.

The salary range describes the minimum to maximum base salary range for this position across applicable US locations. The actual compensation offered may vary from the posted hiring range based on geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. In addition to the compensation listed, this position may be eligible for equity compensation, and a bonus or commission whereby total compensation may exceed base salary depending on individual or company performance. Base Salary Range

$112,000 - $190,000 USD
