Senior Associate, Strategy & Communications– Tokyo
The Opportunity
As we continue to grow our operations in Asia-Pacific and within Japan, we are looking for a high calibre candidate to join our dynamic and professional Strategy and Communications team as a Senior Associate in Tokyo. This is a unique opportunity for a driven, self-motivated candidate to develop a successful career in a dynamic, growing international advisory company.
A Senior Associate at Teneo is responsible for providing the highest quality service to our clients and plays a pivotal role in managing clients’ day-to-day activities; anticipating needs and identifying potential issues before they become problems. You will set high standards and play a key role in monitoring quality of work and ensuring agreed timelines are met. You will also play a key role in supporting junior team members’ development; ensuring opportunities to learn, on-the-job coaching and a motivating team environment to work in.
Responsibilities:
- Horizon scanning and advisory – proactively uses regional geopolitical and/or business intelligence to keep abreast of key trends and provide valuable insights and advisory to clients.
- Monitoring and reporting - around geopolitical issues, media and news cycle, social media, client communications activities and campaigns. Providing input for creation of advisory notes as well as research report development. This includes building familiarity with the media landscape and relations with media contacts.
- Supporting communications planning and implementation - research, ideation, messaging, social and digital content creation, and providing input into reputational risk assessments and advisory work. Supporting the development of integrated communications plans and taking a leading role in developing client ready documents.
- Supporting account management - Effectively support client accounts and maintain good relationships with crucial decision makers at client organisations. This includes monitoring and reporting on progress, flagging issues and mentoring team members
- Supporting client management - building client relationships, proactively identifying opportunities or areas of concern, including managing content development and thought leadership building.
- Financial Communications - Work with the senior management team on advising clients involved in special situations and M&A transactions
- Supporting new business development - starting to build network of client relationships, supporting senior members of the team with new business proposals e.g. conducting research and developing insights to support the proposal building process.
Furthermore, you will be expected to:
- Build strong client and team relationships;
- Provide support and insight to your client teams, proactively highlighting opportunities, and potential areas of concern;
- Build a strong network of effective relationships internally and externally;
- Proactively seek formal and informal learning and development opportunities to support your professional growth and contribute to the sharing of learnings across the wider team; and
Requirements:
- 4-6 years related experience in corporate communication, financial communication, media or transaction advisory.
- Strong working media knowledge and hands-on experience across international (regionally based), regional and Japan media
- Strong in content writing and creation with high standards and attention to detail
- Domain expertise in financial services and technical industries including areas such as private equity, investment management and allocation would be an advantage
- Demonstrated leadership in managing multiple stakeholders (such as clients, media, industry associations, government) while maintaining good relationships
- Experience managing client issues and reputational challenges
- Possessing excellent verbal and written skills in English and Japanese - you should have exceptional writing skills and experience in both languages
- Bachelor’s degree ideally in journalism, mass communication, public policy, business, or economics. A postgraduate degree is an advantage;
- International experience (study and/or work) a plus
- Have a strong appetite for global news and macroeconomic/finance events
- Candidate needs to be confident, agile and proactive
- Must display a strong work ethic, high standards and commitment to the role
