Job Description:
A Managing Director within Teneo Strategy is responsible for maintaining and building business relationships with clients and executing work programs. They are recognized as an expert in their respective field and bring a wealth of client experience, a track record for successful execution and a network of professional relationships to their role.
As a dedicated member of Teneo’s Center of Excellence for Executive Coaching, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of engagements for a wide range of the clients within our Strategy & Communications Advisory and across the broader firm. The coaching team prepares executives for media interviews, investor conversations, speakerships, internal and external presentations, congressional testimony, and more. Teneo coaches have particular expertise in spoken, video, and audio communication and a strong understanding of how journalists think. We seek a highly motivated individual with an entrepreneurial spirit and a demonstrable interest in strategic communications and media relations. Newsroom editorial experience is strongly desired, and prior experience in government affairs and/or investor relations is a plus.
Responsibilities
- The Executive Communications Coach provides expert-level performance coaching as a member of Teneo’s Coaching Center of Excellence. This coach will have extensive and proven experience providing executive coaching and consulting to C-suite executives and senior corporate leaders with a focus on external and internal critical conversations. The role assists in the execution of coaching and leads or contributes to initiatives to deliver on the strategy of the practice.
- Serves as a trusted advisor by providing counsel to senior executives regarding critical conversations with key stakeholders ranging from the media to investors, board members, peers, and employees.
- Identifies and follows media landscape trends; leads Teneo to effectively respond to a changing media environment
- Develops and presents original recommendations based on media experience and strategic and creative thinking.
- Reviews and enhances corporate communications materials, including Q&A documents, scripts, and executive talking points.
- In collaboration with other colleagues, exercises sound judgment to resolve complex issues impacting clients in a timely and transparent manner.
- Fosters an environment in which commitment to quality and client satisfaction is a top priority.
- Works effectively with Teneo senior management to help identify client needs and works with other Teneo operating divisions to address them in an integrated team effort.
- Leverages a network of external and internal contacts to serve clients and regularly bring opportunities to the table that can benefit multiple clients across the firm.
- Helps train and develop junior talent at Teneo.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of professional experience in corporate communications and/or journalism, with a strong preference for direct journalism background.
- Demonstrated success in building strong, collaborative relationships across internal teams and with external clients.
- Deep expertise in developing and amplifying corporate narratives and strategic messaging.
- Strong advisory capabilities on conveying complex strategic and financial messages across multiple formats—written materials, media interviews, employee town halls, and keynote speeches.
- Ability to distill complexity into clear, impactful communication; a strategic and creative thinker in reputation management who anticipates challenges and approaches messaging from fresh angles.
- Exceptional client relationship management skills with a history of leading high-impact engagements.
- Executive presence with the confidence and credibility to engage directly with C-suite leaders.
- Skilled in counseling senior executives and managing relationships with media stakeholders.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to develop and execute integrated, multiplatform communications strategies in partnership with clients and internal teams.
- Business acumen with a proven ability to identify growth opportunities, expand client mandates, and contribute to new business development.
- Flexibility to work outside standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, as client needs and project demands require.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven consulting environment.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage workload during peak periods.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality service in a professional services setting where responsiveness and availability are essential.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially PowerPoint and Word.

Base Salary Range
$180,000 – $230,000 (compensation for this role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience that may fall outside of the range listed).
Total Compensation Package
Includes annualized bonus, 401k match, healthcare coverage and a broad range of additional benefits and perks.
Flexible Work Policy:
Teneo believes in in-person collaboration when possible and if you are assigned to the New York office, the company expectation is for employees to work from the office location a minimum of 3 days a week.
