Position Overview

The Director of Nursing (DON) provides strategic and operational leadership for the nursing department within Accanto Health facilities. This role ensures the delivery of safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care across all levels of care (Residential, PHP, IOP). The DON oversees nursing clinical quality, staffing, regulatory compliance, and interdepartmental coordination to support the holistic treatment of clients struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring conditions.  Direct clinical care is an expectation of the role, with the aim of ensuring ongoing working knowledge of nursing workflows and opportunities for quality improvement.  Nurse education is also an expectation of the role, with the aim of promoting robust education and skills training for the nursing team at the time of onboarding and in a continuing education cadence. 

Schedule

  • M-F 8-5PM with some inpatient shifts and call as needed. 

Location: 

Remote and Near one of our inpatient Residential Sites, Seattle, WA, Minneapolis,  MN, Columbus or Cleveland OH, Raleigh,  NC, or Atlanta, GA

Compensation: 

$125,000.00 - $140,000.00

How Nurses Empower Recovery

  Clinical Care and Oversight (25%):

  • Ensure high-quality, individualized nursing care is delivered in alignment with treatment plans and regulatory standards.
  • Supervise the assessment, monitoring, and documentation of client health status, medication administration, and vital signs.
  • Serve as a clinical liaison to internal and external medical providers and psychiatric providers.
  • Participate in medical and clinical huddles and/or team meetings, contributing to the development and revision of client care plans.
  • Collaborate closely with therapists, dietitians, medical and psychiatric providers, and support staff to deliver integrated, person-centered care.
  • Contribute nursing input to client staffing and treatment review meetings.
  • Educate staff and families on relevant medical aspects of eating disorder recovery (e.g., vitals trends, medication side effects, hydration needs).

 

Nurse Education (25%):

  • Build departmental education supporting required nursing competencies.
  • Establish training and education that assists the nursing department in meeting licensure requirements.
  • Ensure professional growth opportunities for the nursing department.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance and Compliance teams to develop and enhance medical and psychiatric emergency readiness training, while also ensuring regular completion by the sites/programs.
  • In collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer and Senior Director of Clinical Nutrition and Culinary Services, develop and maintain policies and procedures, as well as training related to nursing practices in the refeeding process, including enteral feeding.
  • Provide clinical consultation to nurses and interdisciplinary teams on medical and psychiatric issues, including management of refeeding syndrome, electrolyte imbalances, and psychotropic medications.

 

 Leadership & Administrative (50%):

  • In collaboration with regional and site leadership, hire, onboard, train, and supervise RN, LPN, and support nursing staff, fostering a supportive, trauma-informed team culture.
  • Ensure proper nurse-to-client ratios and adjust schedules based on census and acuity.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and support ongoing clinical competency and licensure compliance.
  • Lead nursing department meetings and promote professional development opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain nursing policies and procedures that align with state/federal regulations, Joint Commission/CARF standards, and company protocols.
  • Ensure proper documentation, chart audits, and timely medication reconciliation across shifts and care levels.
  • Oversee infection control practices, medication management, lab coordination, and safety protocols.
  • Participate in licensing/accreditation audits and implement action plans for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance and Compliance teams to investigate and address incident reports and client concerns.
  • Analyze and respond to trends in acuity, staffing, and program needs.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for expanding or optimizing nursing services.
  • Partner with the leadership team to evaluate nursing-related technology, equipment, and systems.

 

Qualifications

 

Education Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) required; master’s in nursing or healthcare administration preferred.

 

Professional Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in active and in good standing or compact license.
  • Minimum 5 years of nursing experience, including 2+ years in a mental/behavioral health or eating disorder setting.
  • 5+ years in a nursing leadership or administrative role.

Other Qualifications:

  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites must have a valid driver’s license and be authorized to drive. 
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites are required to have a current Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.  
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites are required to have a current First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.  
  • Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites in North Carolina or Georgia are required to have a current CPI certification within 30 days of hire. 
  • Employees at Residential site in Washington are required to have a Washington State Department of Health Food Handler permit within 30 days of hire.
