The Core & Commons Tribe is at the heart of TheFork's technical ecosystem and is composed of three main groups. Core teams build and maintain the software components that power our marketplace. Commons teams develop the technologies behind our front-ends and APIs. Data Enlightenment enables innovation across the organisation by leveraging data and AI.

About the role:

The Staff Engineer in the Core & Commons Tribe is a senior technical leader responsible for driving alignment across multiple teams within the Tribe. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering of Core & Commons, the Staff Engineer ensures that the Tribe’s technical solutions are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with the company’s overall engineering strategy. The role focuses on solving cross-team challenges, fostering collaboration, and enabling teams to work more effectively. The Staff Engineer is expected to lead high-impact technical initiatives and collaborate with Engineers and stakeholders within Core & Commons and beyond.

What you will do:

  • Define and drive the long-term technical vision and architecture for the Tribe, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
  • Partner with Tribe leadership (Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, and Product Leaders) to align technical direction with business objectives.
  • Mentor engineers to solve complex problems, improve technical skills, and foster professional growth.
  • Lead design reviews, provide technical oversight, and evaluate emerging technologies that could benefit the Tribe.
  • Advocate for tools, frameworks, and processes that enhance system performance and developer productivity.
  • Contribute to technical development, set quality standards, and ensure system reliability through direct contributions and reviews.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate technical concepts into business-aligned outcomes and ensure effective communication.

Who you are:

You Must Meet These Critical Qualifications 

  • 10+ years of experience in building and scaling complex distributed systems.
  • Proven ability to influence across team boundaries and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with expertise in high-level architecture and low-level technical details.
  • Experience in cross-functional leadership with a track record of driving successful initiatives.
  • Ability to mentor and coach engineers, fostering technical and professional growth.
  • Fluent in Typescript and / or Javascript. Comfortable with SQL. Knowledge of Python is a plus.
  • Fluency in English; additional languages are a bonus.

  • Knowledge or experience working with data platforms or cloud-based data ecosystems is a plus.
