About the role:
The Nuclear Company is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Field Engineering Manager to join our Construction Department in Columbia, South Carolina. This critical leadership role will be responsible for overseeing and directing all field engineering activities for assigned nuclear energy construction projects, ensuring technical accuracy, code compliance, and efficient execution.
The Field Engineering Manager will lead a team of Field Engineers and interface closely with construction management, contractors, quality control, and other project stakeholders. This position requires a strong technical background, proven leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of construction practices within the highly regulated nuclear energy industry. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Field Engineers, providing technical guidance, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Organize and assign field engineering responsibilities to ensure efficient workflow and project support.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
Technical Oversight and Support:
- Provide expert technical guidance and interpretation of engineering drawings, specifications, codes, and standards to construction teams and contractors.
- Oversee the resolution of technical issues and discrepancies arising during construction.
- Ensure that all field engineering activities are performed in accordance with design requirements and regulatory guidelines (e.g., NRC, ASME).
- Oversee the development and implementation of construction work packaging strategies, including Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), to enhance project efficiency and alignment
Construction Planning and Coordination:
- Participate in constructability reviews and provide engineering input to construction planning.
- Collaborate with project management and contractors to develop and implement effective construction sequences and methodologies.
- Act as a liaison between engineering teams, contractors, and quality/safety departments.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Oversee the preparation and maintenance of accurate field engineering documentation, including as-built drawings, field instructions, and technical reports.
- Provide regular progress updates and reports to project management.
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related engineering discipline.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in field engineering on large-scale construction projects, preferably within the power generation or heavy industrial sectors.
- 3+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role managing field engineering teams.
- Strong working knowledge of construction codes, standards (e.g., ACI, AISC, NFPA), and regulatory requirements relevant to nuclear energy
- Demonstrated expertise in construction work packaging methodologies, including Advanced Work Packaging (AWP).
- Demonstrated experience in resolving complex technical issues in a construction environment.
- Proven leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Proficiency in project management principles and tools.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Estimated Starting Salary Range:
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $150,000 - $173,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a semi-monthly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
