About The Role
The Principal Vision Developer is a senior technical leadership role responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced computer vision and AI-powered visual systems that transform nuclear construction, safety monitoring, and quality control. This position requires deep expertise in machine learning, image processing, camera systems integration, and real-time video analytics to enable automated progress tracking, safety compliance monitoring, and intelligent inspection systems for Nuclear OS. You'll work at the intersection of artificial intelligence and nuclear infrastructure, helping to automate visual inspection, detect anomalies, and ensure construction quality through cutting-edge computer vision technology.
Responsibilities
Computer Vision & AI
- Design AI systems comparing site images to BIM models for automated progress tracking
- Build real-time video analytics detecting construction issues and design deviations
- Train deep learning models (CNNs, YOLO, R-CNN, transformers) for object detection and segmentation
- Develop defect detection for welds, concrete, and structural installations
- Implement 3D reconstruction and photogrammetry for digital twins
Camera Systems
- Deploy and manage multi-camera networks (fixed, PTZ, thermal, drone)
- Integrate AI cameras into IoT sensor networks
- Implement camera calibration, synchronization, and detection pipelines
- Optimize bandwidth for large-scale video streaming
Safety & Quality
- Build AI systems for PPE compliance detection (helmets, vests, glasses)
- Develop perimeter monitoring and unauthorized access detection
- Create automated safety violation alerts and hazard detection
- Implement material classification and work package completion tracking
- Build truck/material arrival detection at gates
Integration & Deployment
- Integrate vision systems with Nuclear OS platform
- Deploy models on edge devices, cloud, and hybrid infrastructure
- Build APIs, microservices, and data pipelines
- Create real-time dashboards for progress, safety, and quality metrics
- Develop robotic vision for autonomous navigation and inspection
Leadership
- Lead cross-functional teams (data scientists, engineers, domain experts)
- Establish vision system standards for nuclear environments
- Evaluate emerging technologies (foundation models, vision transformers)
Experience
- 12+ years in computer vision, ML, or AI development
- 5+ years in senior/lead technical role
- Industrial, construction, or manufacturing experience preferred
Computer Vision
- Expert: OpenCV, scikit-image, classical CV (SLAM, optical flow, feature extraction)
- 3D vision: stereo vision, structure from motion, photogrammetry
- Video analytics and real-time processing
Camera Systems
- Camera integration, protocols (ONVIF, RTSP, GigE Vision)
- Multi-camera synchronization, video compression (H.264, H.265)
- VMS/NVR systems, bandwidth optimization
Machine Learning
- Expert: PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras
- Architectures: ResNet, YOLO, Mask R-CNN, ViT
- Model training, optimization, transfer learning
Programming
- Expert: Python, C++
- GPU programming (CUDA, cuDNN)
- MLOps (MLflow, TensorBoard), Docker, Kubernetes
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Data & Infrastructure
- Image annotation tools (Labelbox, CVAT)
- Data pipelines, ETL, versioning (DVC)
- Edge computing, model optimization (TensorRT, ONNX)
Domain
- Construction processes, quality control, safety
- BIM models, CAD, 3D visualization
- Nuclear facility operations (preferred)
Preferred Experience
- Ph.D. in Computer Vision/ML
- Publications in CVPR, ICCV, ECCV
- Nuclear/energy industry experience
- Robotics or autonomous systems background

Estimated Starting Salary Range
The estimated starting salary range for this role is $198,000-$228,000 annually less applicable withholdings and deductions, paid on a bi-weekly basis. The actual salary offered may vary based on relevant factors as determined in the Company’s discretion, which may include experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, availability of qualified candidates, geographic location, certifications held, and other criteria deemed pertinent to the particular role.
