Safety Manager

Summary: 

 The number one focus for this position is to make sure that our employees go home each day in the same condition that they arrived. In doing so, the Safety Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining our corporate safety program. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Chair the Safety Committee and Risk Management Teams to coordinate company safety initiatives 
  • Coordinate general safety audits, ensuring corrective safety observations are documented and safety violations are corrected immediately 
  • Manage a complete corporate safety program including developing procedures, policies, and tools to assist efforts in jobsite safety and safe driving 
  • Facilitate jobsite safety huddles that include but is not limited to: Toolbox Talks and Job Hazard Analysis 
  • Conduct job site audits and within the company’s warehouse and shop facilities to analyze activities and determine sources of possible exposure to employees, and the public, as well as property and equipment 
  • Consult with company management to make them aware of safety concerns in the workplace 
  • Coordinate and document all required safety training 
  • Provide safety guidance to all field workers to ensure compliance with all regulations 
  • Participate in the investigation and reporting of all safety related incidents 
  • Maintain records for incident/injury performance, exposure hours, etc. 
  • Provide monthly safety statistics and any other agreed upon reports 
  • Identify resources for technical training of field personnel  
  • Ensure company compliance with all federal, state and local safety regulations 
  • Regularly inspect PPE and other work-related tools and equipment for proper suitability for use. Create inspection and maintain process to include inspection dates, observations and any corrective action taken 
  • Manage PPE Inventory 
  • Support the company's drug and alcohol testing program 
  • Build trust and respect within the company to promote open communication and influence the adoption of current and new safety practices 
  • Responsible for the administration of ISNetworld and Avetta contractor’s safety   
  • Maintain and update Health Safety Environmental and Injury and Illness Prevention Program Manuals 
  • Responsible for maintaining Site Emergency Action Plans 
  • Coordinate with site General Contractors on safety related issues as needed 
  • Additional duties as assigned 

 

Experience and Skills: 

  • Computer proficiency (MS Office). Excellent data entry skills required. Ability to successfully utilize a telephone, personal computer including word processing software, copy machine, fax machine, 10-key calculator, etc. 
  • Ability to be assertive and enforce the company's safety policies and procedures 
  • Working knowledge of Department of Occupational Safety & Health rules and regulations; and the ability to identify and resolve safety hazards is required 
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision 
  • Ability to prioritize supporting multiple projects and tasks  
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and personal information 
  • Detailed oriented with ability to evaluate for quality and accuracy  
  • Ability to develop optimal relationships with associates  
  • Experience organizing large workshops/learning programs/events  
  • Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and customer service skills  
  • Experience gathering critical data from multiple sources, compiling into a report for analysis  
  • Meets at least one of the following criteria: 
  • A college degree in HSE or related field 
  • Professional certification/designation relating to HSE 
  • Possess adequate experience having served in a capacity that makes the individual a competent safety professional 
  • Certified in OSHA 30 and AED/CPR/ First Aid 
  • Working knowledge of life-safety codes, OSHA and other regulatory agencies 

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, hear, type and operate office technology – computers, printers, copy machines, calculators, etc. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand 
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus 
  • Ability to distinguish colors and use hands for repetitive fine manipulation frequently  
  • May be exposed to temperature changes, heights, small spaces including confined spaces 
  • Must pass initial and random substance abuse tests
