Senior Staff Technical Product Owner

USA - South San Francisco, CA

Senior Staff Technical Product Owner (Hybrid in South San Francisco, CA or Carlsbad, CA)

About the Role

At Twist Bioscience, we’re scaling the digital systems that power our synthetic DNA platform and enable innovation across our commercial and scientific operations. We’re seeking a Senior Staff Technical Product Owner to lead complex, cross-functional projects with minimal oversight, someone who can dive deep into the details today while helping shape the processes of tomorrow.

In this role, you’ll start by owning hands-on work across requirements gathering, documentation, and testing for high-impact system initiatives. Over time, you’ll grow into a strategic partner role, helping to improve how Twist prioritizes and delivers technology solutions across various commercial functions.

The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset, experience in life sciences or synthetic biology, and a knack for translating complex business and product needs into clear, executable technical requirements.

What You’ll Do

As a senior, highly autonomous contributor, you'll lead complex high-visibility initiatives that span multiple systems and stakeholders, helping drive solutions from concept through delivery with minimal oversight and maximum impact.

Initial focus: Hands-on analysis and delivery

  • Lead detailed business and functional requirements gathering for enhancements and new features across key systems (e.g., eCommerce, Salesforce, SAP, and related integrations), ensuring rapid, business-driven delivery.
  • Document workflows, user stories, and acceptance criteria that translate business intent into actionable development tasks that accelerate response to customer and commercial needs.
  • Partner with business teams to support user acceptance testing, ensuring delivered functionality not only meets objectives but enables faster, more adaptive business operations.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial stakeholders (Product Management, Marketing, Sales Operations, Global Support) to understand both customer and stakeholder pain points.

Evolving focus: Process and prioritization improvement

  • Refine the commercial intake and prioritization process - improving visibility, responsiveness, and speed, ensuring business requests are clearly understood, quickly assessed, and efficiently delivered.
  • Identify and drive process optimization opportunities across digital systems, with an emphasis on scalability, cross-functional efficiency, and shortening the time from idea to release.
  • Partner with key commercial teams to connect customer insights to system capabilities and roadmap priorities, reinforcing a cycle of proactive improvement.
  • Build best practices for documentation, backlog management, and change control that enable faster, more transparent decision-making so the business feels agile, supported, and confident in Twist's IT capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering, or scientific field (Master’s preferred).
  • Strong track record of writing detailed business requirements, mapping processes, and supporting system testing and validation.
  • Ability to translate scientific or customer needs into functional specifications that align with technical constraints and business goals.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills - comfortable partnering with both business stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Growth mindset: able to shift between tactical execution and strategic thinking, with a drive to continuously improve systems and processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in business systems analysis, product management, or a related digital systems role within biotech, life sciences, or synthetic biology.
  • Experience working with business/commercial systems such as Salesforce, eCommerce, SAP or equivalent ERP/CRM platforms, ideally in an integrated environment.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
