HR Consultant

Uprite Construction is seeking an experienced Part Time HR Consultant to partner with leadership and our existing HR team. This role will evaluate current HR processes and procedures, identify and implement improvements, mentor existing staff, and provide guidance on employee relations, investigations, and compliance.

*This is a hybrid position averaging 20 to 30 hours per week, with at least one day per week in our Irvine office and additional onsite presence as needed.*

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Evaluate current HR processes, procedures, policies, systems, and documentation and recommend improvements to strengthen efficiency, consistency, and compliance
  • Review and enhance key HR practices, including onboarding, offboarding, performance management, employee relations, documentation, and employee handbook policies
  • Train and mentor existing HR staff, providing ongoing guidance on employee relations, investigations, compliance, documentation, and HR best practices
  • Lead workplace investigations involving employee complaints, misconduct, policy concerns, workplace conflicts, and other sensitive matters
  • Advise leadership and managers on employee relations, performance concerns, corrective action, coaching, documentation, and employee separations
  • Provide guidance on California employment practices, leaves of absence, workplace accommodations, wage and hour matters, employee classifications, and other compliance related issues
  • Coach and train managers on performance management, employee relations, documentation, difficult conversations, and other people management responsibilities
  • Develop and improve HR procedures, templates, tools, and resources to create consistent practices across the organization
  • Partner with leadership on organizational changes, workforce planning, employee communications, and other people related initiatives
  • Identify potential HR and employee relations risks and provide practical recommendations to address concerns proactively
  • Support additional HR projects and initiatives as business needs evolve

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • 7 or more years of progressive HR experience, including significant responsibility for employee relations, investigations, compliance, and advising leadership
  • Strong knowledge of California employment practices, regulations, and HR compliance requirements
  • Proven experience evaluating existing HR processes, procedures, policies, and practices and implementing practical improvements
  • Demonstrated experience leading sensitive and complex workplace investigations from initial complaint through findings, documentation, and recommended action
  • Experience training, mentoring, and developing HR staff to strengthen capabilities and promote consistent HR practices
  • Strong background in employee relations, performance management, corrective action, employee documentation, and manager coaching
  • Experience reviewing and improving employee handbooks, HR policies, standard operating procedures, and internal HR documentation
  • Ability to identify HR and employee relations risks and provide practical, business focused recommendations to leadership
  • Experience advising managers and senior leaders through complex employee matters, organizational changes, and difficult workplace situations
  • Strong understanding of leaves of absence, workplace accommodations, wage and hour requirements, employee classifications, and other core HR compliance areas
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to build trust across all levels of the organization
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters professionally
  • Highly organized, self directed, and comfortable working independently while partnering closely with leadership and the existing HR team
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
  • SHRM CP, SHRM SCP, PHR, SPHR, or similar HR certification preferred
  • Previous experience within construction or a related industry is a plus
