Mechanical Design Engineering Intern

Urschel Laboratories, INC. is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to work alongside our engineering team on a variety of projects that support the design, development, and continuous improvement of Urschel cutting equipment. This internship provides hands-on experience in mechanical design and engineering while offering the opportunity to contribute to real-world projects and gain practical experience in a global manufacturing environment.

Urschel designs and manufactures industrial cutting equipment for food processing and allied industries worldwide from our global headquarters located in Chesterton, Indiana, U.S.A. Consumers purchase goods manufactured on Urschel cutting equipment daily. Advanced manufacturing technologies are utilized at our climate-controlled, clean, and environmentally conscious facility.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with drafting, drawing development, and engineering documentation.
  • Support design engineers with project work, including drawing creation, revisions, and release processes.
  • Participate in brainstorming and problem-solving activities related to new equipment designs and improvements to existing equipment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to redesign legacy equipment to meet updated performance requirements and sanitary guidelines.
  • Assist with testing, evaluation, and documentation of engineering design changes as needed.
  • Document findings, prepare reports, and communicate project updates as needed.
  • Support additional engineering projects and initiatives as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be actively enrolled in an undergraduate engineering program at an accredited university. Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology are preferred but not required.
  • Solid Works experience is required.
  • Must be entering junior or senior standing with a current GPA of 2.8.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without Visa sponsorship
  • Proficient in Microsoft office applications (Word, Excel, and Power Point)
  • Strong organizational skills and self-motivated
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate integrity, dependability, attention to detail, and professionalism when handling confidential information.
