About the Lending team
The Lending team is responsible for building and operating Valon’s Lending business. We offer refinance, home purchase, and home equity mortgage loans to homeowners in Valon’s servicing portfolio. Lending is the first consumer product to be built on top of the Valon servicing platform, and is a core part of our mission to make homeownership work for everyone.
Business Operations at Valon Lending
The Business Operations team streamlines the day-to-day management and strategic planning of Valon’s Lending business, operations, and finances. They work closely with cross-functional teams like Product, Engineering, and Lending operations to drive efficiency and scale our business. As a member of this team, you will use your analytical skills to advance operational excellence across our Lending business, drive industry-beating portfolio retention rates, drive profitability and, most importantly, fulfill Valon’s mission of empowering every homeowner through the Lending business.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced generalist with a background in complex business operations and an understanding of capital markets, ideally debt capital markets. You will work directly with Valon’s Head of Lending, Head of Sales, Director of Lending Operations, data analytics team, product and engineering, and legal teams to move mission-critical business metrics, streamline the day-to-day management of the business, and handle the strategic planning of the Lending team’s business, operations, and finances. The right candidate enjoys tackling complex problems without frequent guidance and is hungry for quick increases in scope and coverage.
Responsibilities
- Drive efficiencies in Valon Lending’s mortgage operations and capital markets
- Contribute to company strategy by proposing, analyzing, and tracking relevant business KPIs
- Work with the Lending sales, capital markets, and operations team to ensure lending operations run smoothly and efficiently
- Own vendor, investor, regulator, etc. relationships as a component of advancing business objectives
- Collaborate with engineering/product teams to provide product feedback, operationalize new products and features, and ensure quality control
- Translate high-level strategy into day-to-day operations
- Cultivate a deep understanding of the inner workings of a highly complex industry
Ideal Background
- 5+ years of total work experience, with 4+ in either operations, capital markets, business operations, or strategic finance at a high growth startup, private equity, investment banking, or management consulting firm
- Ability to communicate complicated ideas in a clear and concise way
- Experience building and optimizing complex business processes is preferred
- Strong qualitative, reading comprehension and writing skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience using data to solve business problems and SQL skills preferred, but not required
- Proficient in Excel/Google Sheets
- Experience with building and managing digital marketing funnels a plus
- Experience in a highly regulated industry a plus
