The Role

VEIR is seeking a Power Project Manager - Data Centers to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and managing construction projects from business development inception to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction management, estimating or engineering with at least 8 years of relevant project management experience in the Power Utility or Data Center industry. 

The ideal candidate will have extensive project management experience and hold a degree in Engineering or Construction Management. Preference will be given to those with experience in the energy industry and underground transmission, particularly with hyperscaler clients on power projects. Candidates should bring both engineering and project management best practices, proactively share ideas, and lead continuous improvement initiatives to help scale VEIR’s Commercial Operations organization. 

This person will report to the Vice President- Project Delivery & Commercial Operations. The person in this role can be based anywhere in the US and should expect to travel 25% or more of the time depending on business and project needs. 

In the first 3 months you'll

  • Get fully integrated with VEIR’s organizational structure, key stakeholders, and company culture. Understand VEIRs competitive positioning across solutions within our client market sectors.
  • You’ll leverage your previous project management experience to quickly begin drafting detailed project plans, including schedules, budgets, resources, and risk management strategies for assigned projects; utilizing both historical case studies and estimates. 
  • Referencing your past success in managing project teams, you’ll bring recommendations on best practices for establishing communication channels and collaboration frameworks between the project teams, contractors, and key stakeholders as you begin leading your own projects and pursuits.  

In the first 6 months you'll

  • In partnership with the Vice President- Project Delivery & Commercial Operations you’ll leverage your previous project management and/or engineering experience to quickly begin managing the execution of multiple pursuits and or projects, ensuring they are progressing according to plan, on schedule, and within budget, addressing and resolving any project challenges as they arise 
  • Using your expertise, you’ll begin owning the leadership of project teams, to ensure effective communication and collaboration between engineers, contractors, vendors, and subcontractors,  
  • You’ll leverage your past project management and/or engineering experience to implement quality control measures to ensure all work complies with industry standards, project specifications, and safety regulations, while driving projects in execution. 
  • You’ll begin to own the responsibilities of monitoring project budgets, driving the design and procurement processes, controlling costs, and ensuring that projects are completed within a financial schedule and against quality metrics.  

By the end of the first year, you will have

  • Using your expertise in project management and the knowledge you’ll have gained about VEIR and our solutions, you’ll have successfully led at least two major projects to completion, ensuring it meets all time, financial and quality goals. 
  • Prepare post-project evaluations and lessons learned for continuous improvement in future projects. While using your knowledge of best practices to lead continuous improvement initiatives within the project management framework to help VEIR scale effectively 
  • Actively contribute to scaling VEIR’s Commercial Operations organization by refining project management and estimating processes, supporting ERP implementation, introducing improvements, and driving operational efficiencies. 

To be successful in this role

  • You have 8+ years of experience in project management, estimating and/or construction management with an emphasis on power systems projects for data centers (substations, distribution, underground transmission) 
  • You have an Engineering or a Construction Management degree (or industry equivalent) 
  • You have experience in leading engineering design across multiple projects with utility and/or data center clients 
  • You are experienced in schedule methodologies and software  
  • You are experienced in managing pursuits, bid strategy, vendors and subcontractors, leading cost estimation and schedule development. 
  • You have experience in influencing clients and internal teams to drive to goals and achieve deadlines/best outcomes 
  • You are a self-starter who is excited about solving new challenges and are comfortable making recommendations or difficult decisions without all the necessary information at times. 
  • You have a strong knowledge of business systems and ERP/EVM/construction software (Microsoft Office, Oracle, NetSuite, Ecosys, InEight, Primavera and Timberline) and an ability to communicate complex projects clearly in presentations. 
  • You are willing and able to travel regularly, meeting customers where they are, both domestically and internationally
