Senior Platform Engineer (Kubernetes, Python/Go, IaC)
Join Vonage and help us innovate cloud communications for businesses worldwide!
Why this role matters:
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you are a primary architect of Vonage’s engineering culture. You don't just build tools; you design the ecosystem that defines how hundreds of developers interact with the cloud. You will lead the evolution of our Cloud Native Kubernetes platforms, balancing large-scale infrastructure management with the creation of simple-to-use automation. Your mission is to eliminate systemic friction, ensuring our global production APIs are resilient, cost-efficient, and inherently secure by design.
Your key responsibilities:
- Platform Strategy & Vision: Lead the long-term architectural roadmap for our Internal Developer Platform (IDP). You will identify gaps in our current stack and design high-level self-service workflows that abstract away cloud complexity.
- Infrastructure Leadership: Own the lifecycle of our global Kubernetes footprint (EKS/GKE). You are responsible for the "big picture" of infrastructure management—ensuring high availability, multi-region resilience, and seamless scalability.
- Engineering the "Glue": Use Go to build custom controllers and API integrations that push metadata from our infrastructure into our IDP. You will ensure our service catalog stays "live" by automating the ingestion of data from Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD.
- Advanced Policy & Governance: Architect automated guardrails using Kyverno. You will design the policy-as-code frameworks that ensure multi-tenant cluster health and security compliance without hindering developer velocity.
- Internal Developer Portal (IDP) Strategy: Lead the implementation and evolution of our Internal Developer Portal (using tools like OpsLevel or Port). You will design the service catalog schema, scorecards, and self-service actions that provide a "single pane of glass" for Vonage’s entire engineering ecosystem.
- Mentorship & Influence: Act as a technical beacon for the team. You will mentor P3 engineers, drive CNCF community engagement, and influence cross-functional stakeholders to adopt platform best practices.
What you'll bring
- Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in Software Engineering, Cloud Architecture, or Platform Engineering.
- Kubernetes Mastery: Expert-level experience managing and debugging massive, high-traffic Kubernetes environments. You should be comfortable contributing to upstream CNCF projects or building custom K8s extensions.
- Software Engineering Excellence: Deep proficiency in Go (preferred) or Python. You approach infrastructure with a software developer’s mindset—focusing on clean code, testing, and maintainable abstractions.
- Control Plane Innovation: Mastery of Terraform and a transition-oriented mindset toward Kubernetes-native management (e.g., Crossplane). You know how to choose the right tool for the right abstraction level.
- Ecosystem Expertise: Hands-on experience with ArgoCD (GitOps), Helm, and GitHub Actions (designing enterprise-grade reusable workflows).
- Developer Experience (DevEx) & Portals: Proven experience building or maintaining an Internal Developer Portal (IDP). You understand how to map complex microservice architectures into a clean service catalog and have a passion for creating "Golden Paths" that make the developer journey seamless.
What's required for application
- Systems Thinking: The ability to troubleshoot complex, distributed system failures across networking, storage, and application layers.
- FinOps & Efficiency: A proven track record of optimizing large-scale cluster topologies to balance top-tier performance with aggressive cost-efficiency goals.
- Observability Architecture: Experience designing observability stacks using open-source tools like Prometheus, Grafana, VictoriaMetrics, or Thanos.
- Cloud Native Fluency: Deep familiarity with GCP (Cloud Run Functions, GKE) and AWS (EKS) in a multi-cloud or hybrid-cloud context.
How you’ll benefit:
- Attractive Discretionary Time Off
- Private Medical Insurance with optional dependent coverage
- Educational Assistance Reimbursement Program
- Opportunities for reimbursement for conferences, trainings, and other personal development events
- Maternity and Paternity Leave
- Ask recruiter for country specific information
