
Structural Engineer - Entry Level

Entry Level, Structural Engineering is an entry level position in Wight & Company’s Structural Engineering group. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented structural engineering professionals with 0 -1 years of experience to contribute to our diverse portfolio of projects. The ideal candidate will have a foundation in engineering principles, and a passion for technical design. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on experience in all phases of project development.
Technical Responsibilities:
- Perform structural engineering analysis, design, and calculations for vertical building structures under the direct supervision of a senior engineer.
- Analysis and design of structural steel, reinforced concrete and masonry framing systems for vertical building structures.
- Utilization of latest structural engineering analysis and design software.
- Utilization of Autodesk Revit Structure building information modeling (BIM) software.
Core Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation of design documentation including BIM models and drawings under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Conduct research on materials, products, building codes, systems, and sustainable design practices to inform project decisions.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including architecture, sustainability, construction, and other consultants, to support the integrated delivery of projects.
- Perform onsite surveys of existing building conditions and documenting field measurements and observations.
- Perform construction phase activities including submittal review and construction site observations.
- Participate in cross-discipline career development. Engage in continuous learning opportunities, attend industry events, and participate in internal training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from ABET accredited structural engineering program. Master of Science (MS) degree from ABET accredited structural engineering program a plus.
- Experience: 0-1 years of structural engineering experience in an engineering firm, with exposure to analysis, design, and documentation for building projects a plus. Internship in an engineering firm a plus.
- Licensing and Certification: Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam and EIT Certification a plus.
- Skills: critical thinking, analytical problem-solving skills, technical expertise, effective communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Passion: A genuine interest in integrated design and delivery, with a commitment to professional growth and development.
Salary Range: $65,000-$75,000. Individual pay will be based on several factors including experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant.
