Business Development Manager

Agile Space Industries, Inc. (AGILE) designs, builds, and tests in-space propulsion systems for satellites and spacecraft. AGILE uses state of the art 3D metal alloy printing techniques to rapidly design, manufacture, and test new engine designs in our purpose-built propulsion test facility. With over a decade of experience testing rocket engines, and engineers who have worked at industry leaders like Blue Origin, SpaceX, NASA, and Aerojet Rocketdyne, AGILE is a rapidly growing company with many exciting Defense, Civil and Commercial programs.

AGILE is headquartered in Durango, CO with a facility in Mount Pleasant, PA and growing presence in Tulsa, OK. 

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development Manager to join our growing aerospace company, specializing in the design and manufacturing of advanced propulsion engines. The Business Development Manager will play a critical role in shaping winning proposals, ensuring accurate and competitive pricing and schedules, and aligning technical solutions with customer needs and operational capabilities. This leadership role has high growth potential and requires an individual with a deep understanding of the aerospace sector, strong business acumen, and the ability to build and maintain lasting relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Proposal Development & Management

  • Drive the creation of high-quality, competitive proposals that clearly articulate technical solutions and value.
  • Ensure pricing models and schedules are accurate, realistic, and aligned with operational capabilities.
  • Partner with engineering teams to define and validate the best possible technical solution for each opportunity.
  • Coordinate with operations to confirm resource availability and capacity to deliver proposed work on time.
  • Continuous improvement of BD and contracting process to achieve the fastest, most agile, and most relevant responses in the industry

Internal Alignment & Execution Readiness

  • Act as the internal champion for upcoming opportunities, ensuring seamless alignment across engineering, operations, and leadership.
  • Establish processes that ensure proposals are not only compelling to customers but executable by the organization.
  • Lead post-proposal internal reviews to capture lessons learned and continuously improve proposal processes.

Customer Engagement

  • Support business development team in direct customer interactions related to contract terms, scope definition, and pricing negotiations.
  • Act as a knowledgeable technical and programmatic counterpart to customers during proposal refinement and contract discussions.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships to ensure alignment between customer expectations and company delivery capabilities.

IR&D Management

  • Support the prioritization and planning of the company’s IR&D portfolio to align with strategic business opportunities.
  • Oversee select IR&D projects, ensuring they are well-scoped, resourced, and tracked to deliver results that strengthen competitiveness.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Build strong internal partnerships across business development, engineering, finance, contracts, and operations.
  • Facilitate clear communication between customer-facing teams and internal execution teams.
  • Drive accountability for deliverables related to proposals, IR&D efforts, and business development support.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business administration, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of business development, project management, or sales experience, with at least 5 years in the aerospace, propulsion, or defense sectors.
  • Ability to travel up to an average of one week per month.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage proposals, cost/schedule modeling, and technical solution shaping.
  • Strong understanding of the space hardware development lifecycle and operations.
  • Experience with IR&D management or technology development projects preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Strategic thinker with a results-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Proficient in CRM software, Microsoft Office Suite, and business development tools

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience implementing a Shipley business development process or other highly efficient aerospace relevant process
  • Legal and commercial contract experience or training
  • Cost estimating & cost engineering training
  • Certified cost or pricing data (CCOPD) model generation and justification experience.

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer

Employment Type: Exempt

The expected salary range for this role is $122,900-$186,700 annually. Final compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, and internal equity, and is typically made within the midrange, rather than the upper end.

Location: Durango, CO
