A Snapshot 

As a Senior Design Engineer - Mechanical based in either our North Sydney or Melbourne HQ you will report to a Senior Design Manager and work closely with various teams and leadership in Australia, making your mark in a number of ways: 

  • Lead the design, review, and optimisation of mechanical systems for hyperscale data centres, ensuring best-in-class energy efficiency, resilience and reliability. 
  • Drive the implementation of innovative critical cooling systems to support high-density deployments and sustainability targets. 
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering technical excellence and knowledge sharing across the team. 

Your Day to Day  

  • Lead the development and review of mechanical designs for mission critical cooling systems and HVAC, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.  
  • Oversee the development of layouts, system schematics and equipment selections. 
  • Produce design calculations for critical cooling systems 
  • Interface with key customers and liaise on all key aspects of design.  
  • Lead and support CFD studies: define scope, review model inputs and assumptions, interrogate and interpret CFD results, and ensure findings are incorporated into design decisions.  
  • Identify and address risks related to airflow, temperature, and cooling performance.  
  • Actively coordinate design development process with other disciplines and stakeholders.   
  • Prepare basis of design, technical documentation and reports for internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Support project team from inception to delivery of multi-MW hyperscale solutions  
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing. 

Requirements  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or higher (required).  
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 5 years in data centre or mission-critical environments.  
  • Demonstrated experience in HVAC and mission critical cooling system design for data centres or similar facilities.  
  • Understanding of critical electrical systems and infrastructure. 
  • Strong understanding of CFD principles, including the ability to define study scope, review model setup, and critically interrogate and interpret CFD results for both internal and external airflow scenarios. 
  • Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards.  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrated by successful project outcomes.  
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.  
  • Experience in construction and commissioning is favourable but not essential.
