INTERIORS ASSOCIATE

APPARATUS is a New York-based design studio that explores the relationship of lighting, furniture, and objects in immersive environments, threading the historical and the cultural through a modern lens.

 

An Interiors Associate works within the APPARATUS Interiors team across multiple categories of built environments, moving deftly between the ephemeral and long term.  This includes Interior project scopes of new galleries, exhibition and set design, maintenance of gallery visual standards and facilities project support.  The Interiors department is led by the VP Interiors and managed by the Director of Interiors with oversight of all Interiors Associate works assigned.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and maintain project schedules for current and historical Interiors team works. These include FF&E, material and fabric inventories for multiple gallery and storage locations. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Product and FF&E placements in both furniture plans and RCPs.
  • Source materials in the market, including fabrics, paints, hard and soft goods, applied finishes and hardware. Exhibit and communicate a developed taste level commensurate with APPARATUS projects at hand to create and present pallets of sourced material to design leadership team.
  • FF&E purchasing, including developing relationships with vendors to assure best lead times, most transparent ordering, shipping processes, pricing, and tracking. Review all invoices to ensure pricing is accurately documented before processing. Log all invoices in the designated project folders. 
  • Develop upholstery drawings for soft goods in collaboration with Interior Designer and Director of Interiors.
  • Support project initiatives, when appropriate with hands-on installation work including and not limited to decorative furnishings, upholstery, artwork, accessories, and drapery. Assist with mock ups, off-site fabrication and site delivery.
  • Keep up gallery visual standards - including daily morning walkthroughs of New York gallery spaces, adjusting/finessing furniture and object placement as required.
  • Thorough note documentation from design meetings.

 

SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite.
  • Familiarity and experience with a suite of Interior Design skills as FF&E sourcing and specifications, knowledge of upholstery and furniture fabrication techniques and drawings, introductory knowledge of building codes and fluent in design industry ergonomic standards.
  • Strong aesthetic and presentation skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Excellent verbal and communications skills with accountability and follow-through.
  • Understanding of all phases of design from concept development, drawing documentation, through installation and maintenance.
  • Ability to work across multiple concurrent APPARATUS Interiors projects.
  • Excellent time-management skills, to work under pressure and deliver projects under tight deadlines.
  • Critical thinking with the ability to foresee problems and vocalize solutions.
  • Ability to respond professionally to critical feedback and be proactive in seeking support when required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field
  • 2 + years of professional working experience in high-end interior design or set design; fabrication/shop experience is a plus.
  • Experience in a business that requires a team to execute the common vision, understands the value of the individual and the team.
  • Proven ability in a high-paced environment that values consistency, efficiency, and excellence.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Position is based in the New York showroom and is not remote.
  • Full-time showroom hours: Monday – Friday generally 10:00AM – 6:00PM.
  • Longer hours and weekend availability, requested on an as-need basis.

 

PERFORMANCE REVIEW AND CHECK-INS:

  • Weekly Interiors team meetings
  • 6 month check-in
  • Annual performance review

Salary from $70,000
