Position Overview 

Arlo is in search of a Strategic Communications Specialist supporting the CIO for the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence office for the Secretary of Defense.  In this role you will be responsible for developing and executing communication strategies to support cyber policy, practices and authorizations. This role will focus on enhancing organizational messaging, promoting key initiatives, and maintaining stakeholder engagement across various platforms. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing strategies and briefing materials regarding organizational messaging that may impact the enterprise’s operations, assets, or reputation. You should be able to demonstrate good judgement, display poise and sophistication in rapid-moving situations, pay close attention to details, and be able to manage multiple internal and external priorities at once.

Candidates with at least a Secret level security clearance preferred, but not mandatory.   Work samples required to be hired. A background in Cyber Security or knowledge of the NIST 800-32 the Risk Management Framework a plus!

Work Location 

Remote, DC metro area preferred with travel requirements. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategic communication plans aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Craft compelling messages and narratives that effectively communicate complex technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure consistent messaging and brand identity.
  • Collaborate with Training team to help design, develop and deliver cyber training materials for the Cyber Assurance Team.
  • Plan, develop and execute strategic offsite events for the Cyber Assurance Office and DoD leadership such as strategy sessions, summits and round tables.
  • Manage and maintain content for digital platforms, including websites, social media channels, and newsletters.
  • Prepare briefing materials, presentations, and reports for senior leadership.
  • Monitor media coverage and public perception related to cybersecurity and IT initiatives.
  • Organize and execute communication campaigns and events to promote cybersecurity awareness and organizational achievements.
  • Provide strategic advice and guidance to senior leadership on communication strategies and issues management.
  • Collaborate cross functionally with Legal, Public Policy, and other teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (5years minimum) in strategic communications, preferably in a technology or cybersecurity environment.
  • Secret cleared preferred
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity concepts and ability to translate technical information for non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and engaging content.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing digital communication channels (websites, social media, etc.).
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Experience in crisis communication and issues management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of government regulations and policies related to cybersecurity and IT is a plus.
  • Professional certifications in communications or related fields are advantageous.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Tools. PowerPoint skills a must.

Preferred

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Interest or background in Artificial Intelligence
  • Strong use of Microsoft Power Point and Excell
  • Visual design ability
  • Ability to articulate strategic ideas.
  • Experience presenting to C-suite executive leadership.
  • Strategy and planning expertise
