Senior Director of Product Design
Job Overview:
We're seeking a Head of Product Design to transform how businesses manage their financial operations through breakthrough user experiences at AvidXchange. As the senior most leader of Product Design, you'll report directly to the Chief Product Officer and lead AvidXchange's design organization, including product designers, researchers, and content designers. This cross-functional leadership role focuses on influencing roadmap direction, evolving platform-wide design strategy, and deepening partnerships with Product, Engineering, and Customer Experience to align user experience with business outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a strategic design leader who can analyze customer behaviors, identify opportunities, and transform experiences in a fast-paced environment. You should excel at working with executives to create visionary, customer-focused solutions while inspiring a high-performing team through changing priorities and complex challenges. This high-profile position requires outstanding communication skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to scale design impact across the organization.
What you'll do:
Strategic Leadership
- Serve as the organizational thought leader for user experience design and strategy
- Define and champion UX vision that aligns with business objectives and customer needs
- Guide cross-functional teams in transforming customer insights into impactful product features
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and inspire a team of product design professionals
- Foster a collaborative learning environment that encourages creative problem-solving
- Build high-performance design teams through mentorship, coaching, and professional development
- Establish design best practices and methodologies across the organization
Customer-Centric Innovation
- Champion a customer-first approach to all design decisions and product development
- Drive product innovation by deeply understanding and advocating for customer needs
- Implement human-centered design methods to ensure solutions resonate with users
- Translate user research and insights into actionable design strategies
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Build strong relationships across product, engineering, marketing, and business teams
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration to achieve shared business goals
- Present design strategies and recommendations to executive leadership
- Partner with stakeholders to ensure design excellence throughout the product lifecycle
What we're looking for:
- 15+ years UX design experience with 5+ years managing design leaders in high-growth, multi-product environments
- Proven track record building and scaling design teams while maintaining performance standards in fast-paced settings
- Experience leading UX organizations within large product companies, with demonstrated ability to consider cross-product impact
- Expertise in UI design, information architecture, and user-centered design processes; ability to make strategic recommendations from quantitative and qualitative insights
- Strong cross-functional influence and collaboration skills to deliver results across organizational boundaries
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities across all organizational levels
- Monthly travel required for remote leaders to our Charlotte HQ
- Experience leading design for enterprise or SaaS products.
- Experience with service design or directing design teams on complex problems at a systems/service level.
- Experience enabling Enterprise-wide design thinking practices.
