Software Engineer – Visualization

Austin, TX

About the Team

AVRIDE is an autonomous driving company with the mission to make transportation safer and more efficient through cutting-edge technology. We hold a unique position in the market, developing self-driving taxis and delivery robots. Our delivery robot division already has production in the US and Japan. Our team consists of highly talented engineers with extensive expertise. Joining us means diving into a startup atmosphere and making a significant impact on the company's results and the autonomous industry as a whole.

About the Role

As a Software Engineer at Avride, you will build and maintain advanced visualization tools that make complex autonomous vehicle data clear and actionable. You’ll ensure system reliability, support sensor calibration workflows, and collaborate across teams to enhance the explainability and performance of our self-driving technology.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and support a comprehensive service dedicated to visualizing all key subsystems of autonomous vehicles and robots, including aspects such as sensing, perception, prediction, and decision-making processes.
  • Take responsibility for setting up, configuring, and administering the visualization service within our technological infrastructure. This role requires careful monitoring to guarantee optimal availability and robust health monitoring of the system, thereby ensuring its reliability and performance.
  • Actively work to continuously enhance the visualization service by providing state-of-the-art tools that facilitate the explainability of AI systems and algorithms. This enhancement aids all teams across the company, making complex systems more understandable and transparent, which is crucial for ongoing development and innovation.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and communication among both technical and non-technical teams. This involves streamlining development processes and integrating valuable feedback effectively into service enhancements to meet the diverse needs and expectations of all stakeholders.
  • Promptly and efficiently address user requests and implement new features to support our startup's imperative to rapidly evolve and maintain a competitive edge in technology. This dynamic approach is essential for adapting to industry changes and satisfying user demands swiftly.
  • Collaborate closely with the calibration team to equip them with the finest tools for performing high-quality calibration of cameras and lidars on both cars and robots.
  • Focus on optimizing system performance and stability through rigorous testing, debugging, and benchmarking processes. This ensures that the service consistently meets the highest standards of quality and efficiency, which is vital for maintaining user trust and system reliability.
  • Develop and implement robust error-proofing mechanisms within the software development lifecycle. This strategic approach is designed to minimize downtime and significantly enhance the reliability and uptime of the service.
  • Manage and maintain several legacy versions of the service to ensure that users can operate seamlessly with old data until they are fully transitioned to the newer version of the service. This involves careful handling and support to avoid any disruption to user operations.
  • Facilitate the migration of data to newer versions of the service, ensuring a smooth transition for users and maintaining data integrity throughout the migration process. This is a critical task that involves detailed planning and execution to ensure successful upgrades and continuous service improvement.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechatronics and Robotics or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in Software development/engineering or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of experience with Linux.
  • Engagement in Self driving industry: Familiarity with self-driving projects' architecture and principles: knowing principles of their work, deployment, data delivery, analytics processes; expertise in servicing and working with self-driving cars and robots.
  • Proficiency in web technology stack: TypeScript, React, WebGL, GLSL, Three.js, React-Three-Fiber, HTML, CSS.
  • Proficiency in Python and its libraries: OpenCV, Plotly, Numpy.
  • Competency in Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, Terragrunt, Amazon AWS
  • Familiarity with Go, C++, Bazel.
  • Exceptional abilities in Full Stack Web Development
  • Proficiency in algorithms of Computer Vision
  • Practical skills in calibrating cameras and LiDARs, strong understanding of the first principles of operation of these sensors, their distortions and imperfections, along with all necessary algorithms to mitigate them.
  • Proven ability in working with coordinate systems transforms, strong understanding of transformation matrices, quaternions and related mathematics and algorithms.
  • Profound understanding of 3D rendering
  • Strong understanding of networks, TCP/IP stack, principles of client-server infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of system/application architecture
  • Knowledge of UI/UX
  • Familiarity with well-known algorithms, proficiency with writing complex algorithmic logic.
  • Practical skills in performance optimization and benchmarking
  • Prominent abilities in testing, debugging and error-proof development
  • Proficiency in utilizing AI (namely LLMs) as a power user for the enhancement of personal productivity and increasing developing speed and quality.

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
