Software Product Team Lead | Digital Ops

South Burlington, Vermont, United States

At BETA Technologies, we apply our intellectual curiosity, passion for aviation, and commitment to sustainability toward a shared mission of revolutionizing electric aviation. Regardless of the position one holds, each team member brings their talent and desire to positively impact the environment and lives of others in a refreshing, vibrant, and inclusive culture.

BETA is looking for a highly motivated and knowledgeable Software Product Team Lead, responsible for product strategy, roadmap, and team leadership for our Engineering Tools and Libraries. In this role, you'll lead a team while defining the product vision for two critical areas. First, engineering tools and libraries that enable high-performance I/O, real-time data visualization and verification, and integration with third party software. Second, maintenance software that supports aircraft configuration, inspections, and flashing for both internal teams and eventually external customers. You'll partner closely with a technical lead who owns architecture and implementation, while you own the "what and why" - spending your time on deep customer discovery, ruthless prioritization, people development, and strategic technical decisions. This is a true hybrid role combining product ownership, people management, and some hands-on technical contribution. We're looking for someone who can earn the team's respect through technical credibility while excelling at product sense and people leadership.

How you will contribute to revolutionizing electric aviation:

  • Define and own the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Engineering Tools and Libraries, ensuring alignment with BETA's engineering and business objectives
  • Conduct continuous discovery with systems engineers, flight test engineers, maintainers, and other users to identify pain points and validate solutions
  • Represent team capabilities, needs, and objectives to all stakeholders by communicating with other leaders at BETA
  • Make ruthless prioritization decisions across competing demands, balancing quick wins with long-term strategic investments
  • Lead, coach, and develop the team through regular 1:1s, performance feedback, career development, and hiring
  • Partner closely with the technical lead on architecture and technical strategy, ensuring product and technical decisions are aligned
  • Contribute hands-on to technical work when valuable - reviewing code, prototyping solutions, or unblocking critical path items
  • Build strong relationships with internal customers across engineering, flight test, and maintenance organizations
  • Define success metrics and track adoption, impact, and value delivery across all tools and libraries

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a track record of building tools, libraries, or infrastructure used by technical users, with proficiency in languages like Python, C++, or similar
  • Demonstrated product management skills including defining product strategy, conducting user research, and driving outcomes over outputs
  • Experience leading people, whether as a people manager, tech lead, or similar role with responsibility for others' growth and performance
  • Proven ability to build relationships with technical stakeholders and navigate competing priorities across multiple teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to articulate technical concepts and product strategy to diverse audiences
  • Experience building tools or software for technical users, whether internal teams or external customers
  • Track record of balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution and knowing when to do which
  • Ability to earn credibility and respect from technical teams through technical competence and product judgment
  • Comfortable with autonomy and accountability - ownership of outcomes, not just delivery of features

Above and Beyond Qualifications:

  • Experience in aviation or aerospace, with understanding of aircraft systems and operations
  • Background working with real-time data systems, instrumentation, or embedded systems communication protocols (CAN, ARINC, etc.)
  • Strong expertise in both Python and C++, with experience building high-performance systems and user-facing tools in these languages
  • Previous experience building customer-facing products or tools that require packaging, distribution, and support at scale, including navigating open source licenses and compliance
  • Formal product management experience or training, particularly with technical tools or infrastructure products
  • Track record of successfully growing and scaling small teams (3-10 people) as scope and complexity increase
  • Experience with developer tools, data visualization systems, or configuration management software
  • Familiarity with the unique challenges of internal tooling - measuring impact, driving adoption, and demonstrating ROI to stakeholders

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with potential hybrid work arrangements

We pay competitively and base compensation on a variety of factors including skills, experience, industry background, and the evolving needs of the role. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
